Level 6, West Wing, John Radcliffe Hospital, Oxford, OX3 9DU

About the role

We have an exciting opportunity for you to join the University of Oxford as a Human Resources Apprentice in the Nuffield Department of Clinical Neurosciences (NDCN) which has a track record of providing a comprehensive level of development to Apprentices supporting them to achieve their goals.

NDCN is based in high-quality research and clinical facilities in the West Wing of the John Radcliffe Hospital, alongside the Department's world-class Oxford Centre for Functional MRI of the Brain (FMRIB), the Weatherall Institute of Molecular Medicine (which houses 3 of our research groups) and provides the ideal facilities to translate research from bench to bedside. We have developed a highly integrated and interdisciplinary environment in which research, teaching, clinical training and clinical care interact, this enables us to establish new approaches to the understanding, diagnosis and treatment of brain diseases. To this end, the Department fosters collaborations worldwide and warmly welcomes visiting scientists, clinical fellows and students

You will join our busy and supportive HR team and you will be provided with the opportunity to develop full knowledge of the HR lifecycle, from planning recruitment and on-boarding new staff, to the end of fixed-term contracts and retirement planning. You will work to support the HR Team with induction and payroll, reward and recognition, employee relations, and engagement. You will regularly interact with all members of the department and will learn to provide advice on university procedures and policies covering a range of issues such as employee welfare, maternity/paternity and absence management.

You will provide a professional, high-quality customer-focused service. The team deals with a high volume of activity, and you will have to be adaptable, organised, a good communicator and a team player.

During your time with us, you will gain skills and experience both in the workplace and through the completion of a course of study. Appropriate objectives will be set during your Apprenticeship and you will be assigned a mentor to oversee your development.

About the apprenticeship

You will work at the Nuffield Department of Clinical Neurosciences (NDCN) based on level 6 of the West Wing at the John Radcliffe Hospital, Headington, Oxford. As part of your apprenticeship, you will be required to attend college one day and the department four days, per week.

You will be required to complete a 32-month training programme that will cover all aspects of the role and will be delivered through in-house training, as well as day-release or other distance learning methods delivered by Abingdon and Witney College. You will complete a Level 3 Advanced HR Support Apprenticeship and you will gain a CIPD Level 3 qualification with support from the Department, University, and College throughout.

If you did not achieve these grades, do not let that put you off from applying as you can study Functional Skills as part of the apprenticeship giving you the equivalent qualifications needed. To help check that you have the potential to achieve these, Abingdon and Witney college will ask you to complete a short initial assessment during the application process, there are also government residency requirements for Apprenticeship funding which the Training Provider will be able to advise on.
