Job Description

Taylor University is seeking applications of candidates for Housekeeper. This is a (full-time , 12 month, non-exempt position ) located in Upland, Indiana. Resumes will be accepted until position is filled.

  • Normal Daily Duties (majority of the time)

  • Works on an assigned team and carry out your daily assigned duties.
  • Perform the duties as needed by the team:
  • Restroom/shower/locker room cleaning
  • Carpet floor care including project work
  • Hard surface floor care including project work
  • Collection of waste and recycling
  • Detail cleaning including dusting, cleaning glass, sanitizing surfaces, edge and corner cleaning.
  • Assists with establishing the (1) standard day work schedule and (2) flex work day schedules for the work assigned.
  • Flexes routine work assignments to assist in contingency cleaning for other buildings
  • Work with your team leader (or in their absence the Housekeeping Manager) to resolve issues as they arise (students, employees, facilities, etc.).
  • Completes each day with the housekeeping cart stocked and ready to use upon arrival the next day.
  • Emergency Response (infrequent)

  • Responds to emergency situations on campus if available. Employees must be willing and ready to accept overtime as the opportunity arises. We understand it may not always be possible but we need everyone willing to do so.

  • Supports the other Facilities Services areas when called upon due to University needs.
  • All other duties as assigned.
  • Need to carry cell phone and be readily accessible.

  • Ability to work independently and work well with others on a team.

  • Ability to provide customer service attitude with students, employees, alumni, and parents.
  • Ability to interact and develop positive relationships with vendors and the public at large.
  • Proven experience in and general knowledge of safe work practices in general and for the Housekeeping trades, including regulatory requirements.
  • Ability to use and maintain tools and equipment.
  • Basic understanding of cleaning processes and chemicals required to complete cleaning in assigned areas.
  • Willing to have a physical exam at Taylor's expense, if requested.
  • Able to clean stairs and lift 50 pounds.
  • CONTACT WITH OTHERS:

    Internal – Administrative staff, hourly staff, faculty, and students

    External – Parents and families of present and prospective students, friends of the University,

    outside vendors, the general public, etc.

    Required Experience:

    Education: High school diploma or GED

    Experience: 2 years' experience in Housekeeping is preferred but not required

    Physical Requirements:

     1. Frequent bending, lifting, and other movements requiring flexibility.
     2. Ability to lift a minimum of 50 pounds.
     3. Ability to read and speak English.
     4. Allergies must be under control.
     5. Vision: 20/40 with aid
     6. Hearing: Normal levels with aid
     7. Limbs – use of all limbs
