Assignment: High School Equivalency Instructor needed to prepare students
to take their High School Equivalency exams. This is a part-time position
teaching Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 5:30 pm to 8:30 pm (6 hours per
week) at SCC's Swain Center located in Bryson City. This position pays $18
Have a passion for helping adult learners as they prepare for their High
School Equivalency exams.
Understand the different teaching principles needed to engage adults in
the learning process.
Assist in student retention and recruitment.
Help develop and implement Contextualized Curriculum in Reading, Writing
and Math to use with Adult Basic Education classes, as well as High School
Equivalency test preparation.
Submit all college reports in an accurate and timely manner.
Maintain accurate records for each course taught.
Attend instructor and departmental meetings as scheduled.
Be responsible for professional development and maintaining professional
Establish and maintain effective working relationships with students,
faculty, staff and others.
Ability to use computers and software to support instruction and maintain
college records and reports.
Education:Bachelor's Degree required. Candidates with the following experience
Prior teaching experience.
Working knowledge of teaching adults and developmental education
philosophy as well as current teaching methods.
Strong math and writing background sufficient to support instructional
