Position Healthcare Institute Mentor (2023 Summer Employment)Job Category Summer Job Description
The Healthcare Institute is a week-long, residential, summer program designed for high-school students interested in a career in health sciences. The program mentors are Saint Mary's students who will act as leaders during the program, facilitating small group discussions, helping organize activities, and building community among participants.
In spring 2023, mentors will participate in approximately 10 hours of community building and aid with recruitment efforts. Mentor training will take place during Senior Week 2023. Mentors will need to be on campus to help facilitate the institute from approximately July 14th-21nd, 2023.
In the fall of 2023, mentors will meet for up to 15 hours to plan/facilitate follow up engagement activities for summer participants.
Job Duties
10 hours of community building/help with student recruitment during the spring semester; 30 hours of training during Senior Week; 60 hours during the week of the program, July 16-21; 15 hours of follow up in the following fall semester. Includes room and board during Senior Week training and during summer program.
Successful applicants will be Saint Mary's students (rising juniors and seniors or recent graduates) who demonstrate leadership abilities, a commitment to engaged learning, and a competence in a healthcare-related major. Mentors should be reliable, able to maintain confidentiality, and open to welcoming and supporting participants from a range of backgrounds, viewpoints, and experiences. Preference given to applicants who are enrolled in a program that is within the Division of Integrated Health and Human Sciences (Nursing Science; Speech & Language Pathology; Autism Studies, Social Work), but anyone meeting the above requirements may apply.
Minimum Qualifications
Mature college student and living on campus is a requirement for this position.
