The Head Women's Hockey will provide oversight and management of the American Collegiate Hockey Association (ACHA) women's hockey program at Roosevelt University. Responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to, recruiting of prospective students to meet enrollment goals, planning and providing elite instruction and assessment at team practices and competitions, budget maintenance, equipment procurement, scheduling and travel, and engaging with student-athletes to aid in their academic success, retention and eventual graduation from the University.

This is a part-time, exempt position that reports to the Director of Hockey and works primarily at the team's practice and competition facility in Bensenville, Ill., with presence on the Chicago campus as needed.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required

  • Bachelor's Degree
  • Prior experience in assigned program as a coach, participant or related role
  • Excellent organizational, communication (written and verbal), interpersonal skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to exercise considerable judgment and discretion in establishing and maintaining good working relationships
  • Ability to demonstrate a commitment to service excellence by embodying Roosevelt's core values, mission, and vision in every aspect of the role working with students, faculty, staff, and visitors
  • A positive and professional demeanor is a must
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite including Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • Years of Experience Required 1-3 Required Education Bachelor's Degree Certification/Licensure Required Minimum Qualifications Preferred Qualifications

  • Recruiting experience at the college level
  • Prior coaching experience at the college level
  • Equipment Operated

    Basic office equipment (desktop computer, copier/ multi-function device, fax and telephone).

    Working Conditions

    This position requires work in an on-ice and office setting. The role will require work on nights and weekends and travel with athletic teams as assigned, with travel for recruiting prospective student-athletes also needed on occasion.

    Duty and Responsibility

    Competition and Practice Management

    Develop and manage calendar of competitions and training sessions to maximize potential for competitive success. Organize individual plans for each training/practice session and assess outcomes, communicating regularly with student-athletes, placing the individuals and the team in the best possible position for success. Lead team during competitions.

    Student-Athlete Recruitment

    Build relationships with local, regional and national high school, junior college and club programs and coaches to help in identifying prospective student-athletes to meet enrollment goals. Travel to evaluate in-person prospective student-athletes at various events. Facilitate campus visits for prospective students and develop on-going dialogue that leads to their eventual enrollment.

    Student-Athlete Engagement and Academic Success

    Oversee the academic progress of student-athletes within the program. Assist students with issues that can be barriers to retention and eventual graduation. Develop programming that builds character in areas outside of the athletic arena to provide a well-rounded college experience.

    Percentage Of Time 15 Duty and Responsibility

    Program Management

    Along with the Director of Hockey, manage the operating budget over the course of the year following all institutional guides for purchasing and reimbursement. Create annual competition schedule. Organize all team travel to off-campus competitions. Order, inventory and distribute necessary equipment and uniforms for team training sessions and competitions. Ensure program is compliant with ACHA policy guidelines.
