Internal Recruitment No Working Title Head - Poultry Science Anticipated Hiring Range Commensurate with Experience and Education Work Schedule Monday - Friday 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM; other hours as required Job Location Raleigh, NC Department Poultry Science About the Department

North Carolina State University's Prestage Department of Poultry Science is one of six remaining independent departments in the nation focused on poultry science in a state where poultry production is the number one agricultural industry. The Department has 17 tenure-track faculty (9 full professors, one associate professor, five assistant professors, and two open searches) including two named endowed faculty positions. In addition, there are two non- tenure track faculty, 24 support staff, 2 post-docs, and 20 graduate students. The research, teaching, and extension programs of our faculty, staff and students span nearly all aspects of poultry production – management, physiology, reproduction, processing, muscle biology, animal welfare, alternative protein, feed milling, nutrition, value added feed products, immunology, infectious diseases, food safety, and waste management. Our department is also unique, in that we work across all the major poultry sectors – broilers (including breeders), layers, and turkeys; and we have dedicated facilities for each of these species and areas of research, including the Chicken Education Unit, Talley Turkey Education Unit, Animal and Poultry Teaching facility, the Animal and Poultry Waste Management Center, Feed Mill Education Unit, and the Piedmont Research Station which is a partnership with the NC Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services.

The department also has a strong commitment to innovative education. We have the second-largest undergraduate poultry science program with 100-125 students. We offer several specialized educational programs including the Professional Science Master's, Master of Poultry Science, minors in poultry science and feed milling, and certificates in feed milling and in data analytics for the poultry and swine industries. The Department administers an Associates of Applied Science Degree in Livestock and Poultry Management with the Department of Animal Science under the umbrella of the Agricultural Institute. The Department also hosts the Master of Physiology program, which is the College's largest graduate program, serving over 200 pre-professional students annually. Our faculty also contribute to undergraduate and graduate courses that are key to other programs at NC State (Animal Science, Biotechnology, Biomanufacturing, Food Science, Comparative Biomedical Sciences, Nutrition, Genetics and Genomics, Physiology, and Microbiology).

Finally, in keeping with the land-grant mission, our faculty have a deep commitment to outreach and extension, regardless of their appointment. We have numerous programs serving state, regional, and international stakeholders. Outreach includes high school students, 4-H, K-12 programs, annual workshops, and conferences for specific industry segments, collectively serving about 3000 stakeholders annually. In addition, coordination with county area agents brings educational resources to poultry extension programs all over the state.
