The Bundesanstalt für Materialforschung und -prüfung (BAM) is a materials research organization in Germany. Our mission is to ensure safety in technology and chemistry. We perform research and testing in materials science, materials engineering and chemistry to improve the safety of products and processes. At BAM we do research that matters. Your responsibilities include:

Development, strategic, personnel and technical management of the division "Electrochemical Energy Materials"

Management and motivating a team of qualified employees

Research and scientific investigations in the field of energy materials for electrical storage and fuel cells/electrolysis

Collaboration in the thematic field of energy as well as management and coordination of the field of activity "Electrical Energy Storage and Conversion"

Providing policy advice to various departments on the above-mentioned issues

Providing impetus for and self-acquisition of third-party funding for research projects

Conception of topics for young scientists and their supervision within the scope of your research activities

Active design of change processes and participation in the further development of BAM's focus areas as a manager, particularly in the Energy area

Positioning of BAM as a federal research institution through participation in national and international standardisation bodies, advisory boards and scientific networks

Expansion of existing and initiation of new cooperations with national and international partner institutions

Writing scientific publications in peer-reviewed journals

Supervision of postdocs/ doctoral candidates, students and interns

Your qualifications:

An outstanding scientific university degree (diploma/master`s) specialising in chemistry or a comparable natural science or engineering discipline, a very good PhD and far-reaching scientific achievements

Extensive knowledge in the field of research into energy materials for electrical storage and fuel cells and the associated safety issues

Leadership personality with experience in the personnel and technical management of scientific-technical work areas

Comprehensive experience in the independent processing of scientific questions, successful acquisition of third-party funds, publication and presentation of scientific results and the supervision of young scientists

Experience in scientific management

Fluent command of German and English, both written and spoken

Experience in committee work, regulation formulation and policy consultation are an advantage, as is involvement in scientific Networks

Team-oriented work ethic with excellent communication/information skills and a high level of empathy/confidence as well as integration skills and gender equity

A goal-oriented and structured way of working, conceptual, strategic and innovative thinking skills and assertiveness/negotiating skills

Applicants who meet the prerequisites will generally receive a salary according to BesGr. B 1 BBesO. A promotion according to BesGr. B 2 BBesO is possible at a later date provided that the applicant is suitably qualified, competent and performs professionally within the framework of the available positions.

In the case of applicants who do not meet the career requirements for federal officials at the time of recruitment, a non-tariff remuneration shall be agreed upon. The probation period in accordance with § 34 BLV and § 31 TVöD shall apply in this case.
