Description

The mission of Pfeiffer University Department of Athletics is to strive for excellence in academics and athletics, while embracing opportunity, good sportsmanship, and ethical conduct. In keeping with this mission, the role of the Women's Basketball Coach is to support a quality varsity program which will challenge and develop the physical, mental, and personal abilities of Division III student-athletes. Reporting to the Athletics Director, duties entail:

  • Develop and Implement all aspects for coaching basketball including thorough knowledge of the sport, coaching strategies, and player development.
  • Develop and implement a recruitment strategy for student-athletes and for women's basketball.
  • Adhere to NCAA III rules and regulations.
  • Work within the framework of the Department of Athletics administration and coaches.
  • Communicate effectively with students, faculty, administration, staff, and alumni.
  • Staff are responsible for the monitoring of the institutional facility for the purposes of safety and facility security. Coaches' supervision is to prevent any activity that is dangerous to a student-athlete or other students. This does not allow the supervisor to direct or provide instruction to student-athletes while supervising.
  • Responsible for the operating budget for the women's basketball program.
  • Maintain a roster of 20-22 players on the team.
  • Fundraise $10,000 through eteam sports, former women's basketball players, etc.
  • Finish in top half of the USA South Conference.
  • Attend the year end Keith Crisco Memorial Golf Tournament.
  • Attend the year end Senior Student-Athlete Dinner.
  • Cover game operations for other sports during the out of season schedule.
  • Attend weekly Head Coaches Staff meeting.
  • Work with other coaches to develop a weekly practice schedule and gym time.
  • Monitor a weekly study hall for all freshman players and anyone under a cumulative 3.0 gpa.
  • Attend the Pfeiffer Sports Hall of Fame events.
  • 12-month full-time staff position

    The head women's basketball coach will develop and supervise all aspects of maintaining the basketball program with aspirations of consistently playing in the NCAA Division III post-season tournament and the promotion of Pfeiffer University's mission and values as a true liberal arts university. Candidates must have a genuine understanding and commitment to the NCAA Division III philosophy that places priority on the overall quality of the student- athletes' educational experience and the successful completion of all academic programs. Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to: scouting, recruiting, daily practice, organizational duties, fundraising, and providing leadership and mentorship of student-athletes. This position supports the women's basketball program with the recruitment of potential high school and community college student athletes.

    Work is performed in an office environment during standard business hours, as well as during non-regular office hours to fulfill business needs. Extensive travel required for competition and recruiting.

    Qualifications

    The position requires:

  • Successful background in coaching, preferably at the collegiate level;
  • Previous recruiting experience,
  • Previous fundraising experience,
  • Collegiate playing experience,
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written,
  • Successfully pass NCAA recruiting examination,
  • Must obtain First Aid, AED, and CPR certification within four months of hire;
  • Functional computer skills, and
  • A Bachelor's degree.
