Housed within CPS, the Graduate School of Political Management (GSPM) is the first and foremost graduate school of applied politics, communications, and advocacy.

The Graduate School of Political Management (GSPM) seeks a Marketing and Communications Manager. Reporting to the Director of Marketing and Communications for the College. This position is responsible for the recommendation and execution of the overall strategic plan for communications and marketing for GSPM. This position does not have direct reports but may schedule, train and supervise temporary staff or student workers and collaborate with other staff members providing guidance to lower-level staff members. The primary focus of this role is to work collaboratively with the Assistant Dean of Recruitment and Admissions and the Director of Marketing and Communications to recommend, implement and evaluate GSPM marketing program plans for GSPM's in-person and online graduate programs.

This role will also support the Director of Marketing and Communications in a wide range of GSPM and CPS initiatives as needed.

Responsibilities include:

  • Coordinates with the Assistant Dean of Recruitment and Admissions, Director of Marketing and Communications, GSPM Program Directors, the College Web Lead, Recruitment, and the Media Relations Central Service team. In collaboration with the Director of Marketing and Communications for the College, this position leads the development, implementation, and evaluation of integrated strategic and tactical marketing plans for GSPM programs and the recruiting function and recruiting assistant to help execute. Associate Director of Admissions and Recruitment, the Media Relations Specialist, Director of Operations, and Program Directors, this senior position leads the development, implementation and evaluation of integrated strategic and tactical marketing plans for GSPM programs and for the recruiting position and recruiting assistant to help execute.
  • Recommends paid (traditional, digital, social, event) and non-paid (social, PR) outreach and lead generation communication channels. Develops plans, timetables, for activities and discusses the with the Media Relations Specialist and Director of Marketing and Communications before execution.
  • Ensures that all plan elements work cohesively from a channel/vehicle, timing and message standpoint to generate awareness and interest among qualified prospective students, and motivates prospective students to seek more information from a Recruitment Specialist.
  • In consultation with Assistant Dean of Recruitment and Enrollment with the Director of Marketing and Communications for the College and Program Directors, implements the strategic positioning for program messaging and leads the development, creating, and management of routine communications materials.
  • Tracks and analyzes plan results from all channels (online and offline) to evaluate ROI based on the entire marketing and recruitment funnel, as well as develops actions to improve marketing campaign performance.
  • Consults with the team to create, edit and manage public relations materials for assigned programs via print, web, digital, social media, etc. to ensure GSPM brand is integrated.
  • This position will not manage the programmatic marketing spend but will recommend and identify online marketing trends and insights to optimize online spend. Escalates concerns to and receives guidance from supervisor.
  • Develop, manage, and foster GSPM sponsored organizations (paid) and partnerships (non-paid) in order to bolster recruiting, marketing, alumni, development, and strategic school-wide initiatives.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.

    Minimum Qualifications:

    Qualified candidates will hold a Bachelor's degree in an appropriate area of specialization plus 2 years of relevant professional experience, or, a Master's degree or higher in a relevant area of study. Degree must be conferred by the start date of the position. Degree requirements may be substituted with an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

    Additional Required Licenses/Certifications/Posting Specific Minimum Qualifications: Preferred Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated success in the development and implementation of marketing strategies.
  • Degree in marketing management with experience in marketing or program management.
  • Proficiency with spreadsheets and word processing software.
  • Familiarity with database software, CRM and experience in a higher education environment are also desirable.
  • Flexible, results-oriented creative thinker, open to new ideas and changing priorities in a fast-paced mission driven organization.
  • Ability to think and act both strategically and creatively.
  • Strong project management skills, ability to meet deadlines, and ability to manage stakeholder expectations.
  • Strong written and verbal communications skills, including presentation skills.
  • A proven record of building partnerships/coalition.
  • A strong understanding and interest in U.S. politics, advocacy and communications.
