About The Role:

University of Hull has adopted a new finance structure and as a result of this we are recruiting for a number of finance roles. It is an exciting opportunity to join the finance team as we go through a period of change to support the universities strategic goals, this includes major investment in a new financial system.

You will be working alongside the wider finance directorate and stakeholders across the business.

The University Finance function has the responsibility to maximise value for money and ensure increased efficiency, economy and effectiveness. Its focus is on developing a well-trained and coordinated workforce able to add value whilst complying with national guidelines, policy initiatives and its legislative responsibilities.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities :

You will be responsible for the consolidation of the group accounts as well as presentation of the financial statements for all entities within the group, this will include reporting that is required to external regulating bodies.

The following are some of the specific duties of the post:

  • Preparation and completion of all financial reports and accounts required by regulated bodies
  • Preparation of University's annual statutory accounts ahead of financial audit
  • Work with internal teams to complete financial audits
  • Preparation of the Ferens Trust accounts and represent the Head of Finance at meetings of the Trustees
  • Manage areas such as deferred capital grants, investments and endowments
  • Manage and assist with the capital process
  • Monitor, assess and interpret technical accounting developments
  • Prepare consolidated accounts for the group on a monthly basis
  • Ensure accurate financial statement presentation
  • Conduct the impairment review of the University and amend the financial statements accordingly, communicate impact and outcome to key stakeholders
  • Prepare year end balance sheet analysis
  • Month End reconciliation preparation
  • Companies House and OFS reporting including submissions
  • Complete and submit necessary statutory returns.
  • Understand technical adjustments to accounting standards and liaise with external consultants if applicable
  • Capital accounting in conjunction with the Capital Business Partner and Management Accounts Team
  • Working with other members of the Financial Services team to ensure coverage of day to day activities during annual and other leave
  • Required:

    Has a full accountancy qualification, CIPFA, CIMA, ICAEW or equivalent.
