Grant-funded Researcher B/C - Technology and Development Lead

This role can be appointed as either an Academic (Level B or C) $102,592 - $144,368 per annum or a Professional role HE09. An employer contribution of 17% superannuation also applies.

Are you passionate about a sustainable future for agriculture and interested in working with a world-leading research infrastructure facility in plant phenomics?

The Australian Plant Phenomics Facility (APPF) is a national research facility established in 2009 as part of the Commonwealth National Collaborative Research Infrastructure Strategy. The Adelaide node of the APPF, known as The Plant Accelerator®, is located on the University of Adelaide's Waite Campus, and is a world leading plant growth and analysis facility fitted with high quality plant growth environments and state-of-the-art high- throughput imaging and data analysis technology.

The Plant Accelerator® is further expanding our new state-of-the-art equipment to enable innovative plant phenomics studies in controlled environments and the field. We are seeking a highly motivated individual to join our team as Technology and Development Lead. In this role, you will maintain existing infrastructure, and drive the implementation of new technology, including pilot studies, establishing workflows and attracting new users. Optimising new and novel equipment to maximise research output, you will work closely with scientists, industry and the agricultural community to deliver measurable impacts to the sector.

To be successful you will need:

  • PhD or equivalent experience in remote sensing, plant science, agricultural science, agricultural engineering, or a related discipline, with demonstrated success in applying for research funding.
  • Significant experience with image-based plant phenotyping, remote sensing of plants, or other image-based structure characterisation.
  • Ability to support researchers and industry clients in (i) the application of technology for new research projects and (ii) biological interpretation of complex data, and (iii) grant funding applications including the use of new technology.
  • Ability to optimise the use of novel research infrastructure to maximise high-quality research output, undertaking of pilot studies and implementation of workflows.
  • Demonstrated ability to engage with industry and understand industry needs and drivers.
