Job Description:

Reporting to the Director of Sponsored Programs, the Grant Development Officer will work in consultation with faculty and staff in writing of proposals to competitions at the federal, state, and local level. This position provides insight during the grant writing process to ensure that the objectives and goals in the proposal are clearly visible to grant reviewers. Assists other staff within the Office of Sponsored Programs as needed to meet proposal deadlines.

Essential Functions:

  • Identifies and disseminates funding opportunities to faculty and staff.
  • Works in a collaborative environment across the University, in close coordination with leadership in all academic areas during the proposal development process including one-on-one support.
  • Assists the Director of Sponsored Programs with training workshops on proposal development to the OLLU community.
  • Directs faculty/staff to grant funding resources and creates/updates University resources.
  • Reviews proposal requirements/eligibility and creates timelines for proposal development.
  • Guides proposals through the university's internal review process.
  • Facilitates progress reports and communication with government agencies.
  • Maintains records and provides institutional reports on proposals and awards.
  • Develops and maintains standard proposal formats for grants.
  • Keeps abreast of federal and state funding agency priorities and initiatives.
  • Accepts and fulfills other duties as assigned by the VP for Institutional Advancement and/or the Director of Sponsored Programs as a team member in the overall fundraising activities of the University, including working some nights, weekends, occasional travel, and attending special events as necessary.
  • Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills including the ability to write clearly, persuasively and concisely on a deadline. Strong editing skills.
  • Ability to work well under deadline and prioritize projects simultaneously.
  • Self-starter, goal-oriented and able to work independently and initiate follow-through.
  • Ability to interface professionally with administrators, faculty, staff, students and funding agencies.
  • Ability to take complex information from the request for proposal and convey that information clearly and accurately to faculty and staff.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and adhere to the University's core values of Community, Integrity, Trust and Service.
  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills, including the ability to work collaboratively as a member of the IA team.
  • Requirements:

    Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in journalism, education, social, and/or health sciences or equivalent combination of education and experience. Master's degree preferred.
  • At least three years of experience developing and/or writing proposals for federal/state/foundation/corporate agencies working with university administration, sponsored research services offices preferred.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office productivity and grant submission systems.
