Position Information

Under general supervision from the Program Department Manager and in close consultation with the Department Graduate Student Advisor, Undergraduate Student Advisor, Department Chair, and as a liaison to the Bourns College of Engineering (BCoE) Associate Dean responsible for Research and Graduate Education, the incumbent is responsible for the coordination and administration of all aspects of the Material Science and Engineering (MSE) academic program with special focus on the graduate program. The incumbent also interfaces with the BCoE Student Affairs office to facilitate and support undergraduate education program objectives and affiliated programs and areas wherein MSE faculty possess specialized knowledge, e.g., materials science. The major functional areas include (1) Outreach, Recruitment and Admissions; (2) Student Advising; (3) Program Management and Development; and (4) Special Projects. The incumbent independently conducts curriculum advisement, assessment and matriculation of prospective and current students on academic matters. Develops and maintains a comprehensive database to accurately track, analyze, retrieve and report student information in order to assess the department's demographic, academic productivity and performance and use data as the basis to plan for future programmatic activity as well as cohort management. The database serves as a repository for historical program activity. The incumbent manages the admissions process providing all materials and support to the graduate committee, develops and monitors multi-year financial support packages in coordination with the Department Graduate Advisor and Department Manager. The incumbent represents the Department at meetings, conferences, and events; conducts student outreach and orientation sessions. Develops, presents, and coordinates content and material for marketing and recruitment efforts and updates the department's website; performs research to assist the department with accreditation and assessment (internal and external) reviews, i.e., ABET, BCoE Five Year Plan and ad hoc data requests from Labor Relations, BCoE Dean's Office (D.O.), Office of Research and Economic Development, etc. and assists faculty with data to describe the academic program for grant proposals, e.g., providing relevant statistical data on student population, metrics, etc.

The budgeted maximum salary for this position is up to $56,100/yr.
