The Faculty of Medicine, Dentistry & Health Sciences has an enviable research record and is the University of Melbourne's largest faculty in terms of management of financial resources, employment of academic and professional staff, teaching of undergraduate and postgraduate (including research higher degree) students and the conduct of basic and applied research. The Faculty's annual revenue is $628m with approximately 55% of this income related to research activities.

About the Role The Graduate Research Officer will be responsible for the provision of accurate and detailed information and advice to students and staff in relation to selection, admissions and current candidature processes for graduate research programs within the Faculty of Medicine, Dentistry and Health Sciences.

Responsibilities include:

  • Delivering expert service and advice to stakeholders of the Learning and Teaching Unit within agreed service standards, referral protocols and a framework of excellence in customer service.
  • Providing expert advice to graduate research students, supervisors, professional and academic staff on a range of graduate research matters requiring a detailed understanding of University and Faculty policies and procedures.
  • Administering the faculty's graduate research course and scholarship applications including scholarship scoring and assessment of applications against entry requirements.
  • Administering faculty-level assessment of current candidature variations after department/school assessment has been completed.
  • About You You will bring your ability to have strong attention to detail and high- level organisational skills with the ability to prioritise, multi-task and schedule work to meet deadlines and to use initiative in problem-solving. You will have the experience and commitment to providing a high level of customer service to a diverse range of clients of varying backgrounds with an ability to exercise judgement and to ensure that confidentiality is maintained at all times. Your ability to influence and forge working relationships with internal and external stakeholders will be highly valuable and you will have the ability to work collaboratively and flexibly both in a team and independently, in an environment with changing demands. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills including the ability to present information clearly and to interact effectively with stakeholders at all levels both internal and external to the University.

    You will also have:

  • A relevant degree with experience within the higher education sector; or a combination of relevant experience and education/ training.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop, implement and maintain policies, procedures and new initiatives and to interpret and provide advice on established policies and procedures.
  • High level computer skills, particularly in relation in the use of spreadsheets, enterprise databases and word processing.
  • Demonstrated experience in the development and documentation of business processes.
  • To ensure the University continues to provide a safe environment for everyone, this position requires the incumbent to hold a current and valid Working with Children Check.
