In support of Morehouse School of Medicine's Vision; “Leading the creation and advancement of health equity,” the Neuroscience Institute is seeking a Graduate Research Assistant, Bioinformatician to join our team investigating blood gene expression changes following stroke. The lab specializes in transcriptomic analysis of blood from patients with neurological conditions (stroke Epilepsy, Alzheimer's Disease).

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelors Degree. Degree must be from a regionally accredited college or university. Must be enrolled in a graduate program in a biology or a health science discipline, genetics, computer science and appropriate research experience. The ideal candidate will have experience in genetics analysis, transcriptome analysis, Linux (bash) programming, R based analysis packages (or python) and prediction modeling. Excellence in research as shown by publications in quality journals. The candidate should be a team player, capable of working in a team, as well as show initiative and independence. The candidate should have excellent communication, time-management and leadership skills, and will be expected to work with a degree of independence. The candidate should be highly detail orientated and capable of efficient time management.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience in epidemiology or translational human health projects is desirable.

Job Duties

Description of Job Duty

Direct day to day responsibility for running the project, which includes design, execution, and analysis of the data acquired. Disseminate results at conferences and in journal publications. Responsible for RNA-seq library assembly and data analysis, and identifying novel analysis approaches. In addition to performing the above duties, the candidate will be expected to assist the PI in overseeing laboratory activities, supervising trainees, and writing grants and publications.
