Job Duties: The Graduate Assistant will assist with delivering and monitoring student communications about thesis and dissertation projects, assist with the maintenance and development of the workshop for thesis and dissertations, offer an initial assessment of student projects for accurate formatting relative to provided guidelines, assess mechanical and stylistic aspects of student projects, and provide technical expertise with formatting documents in Adobe and finalizing for invoice and binding or download to Library. Will perform other related duties as assigned. The Graduate Assistant will remain in daily contact during the workweek with the Associate Dean for Student Success relative to all student thesis and dissertation projects as well as participate in project management tasks related to finalizing all student projects each term. Examples of Work Performed: Admitting students to and monitoring enrollment to virtual and online workshops for Thesis and Dissertation Providing initial assessments of student projects in the workshop and reporting assessments to the Associate Dean, and communicating with students and Associate Dean about projects as requested Using MS Office to assess document formats and suggest and assist with improvement to students, employing Adobe Pro to create PDF's, employingTEAMS, running documents through various software applications, collecting and organizing forms related to thesis and dissertation production and completion.
EVALUATION The performance evaluation process follows standard University policies and procedures.
Minimum Qualifications
Experience: Experience in writing, editing, and technical editing. Education Bachelor of Science in Computer Science or in Technical Communication/Writing and enrolled in at least 6 credit hours in a Lamar University graduate program. Preference: Enrollment in Master's or Doctoral study in STEM field at Lamar University with significant experience in Computer Science and Technical Writing
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: • Must be a currently enrolled graduate student at Lamar University for the Summer 2023 semester and preferably not due to graduate until at least Fall 2024. • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills • Demonstrates self-starting initiative and professional ethics • Ability to work with staff, faculty, and students from diverse backgrounds • Knowledge of writing, formatting, and editing skills in English; competent skills in technical editing, MS Office, Adobe Pro; capabilities in TEAMS. • Ability to work at a keyboard and monitor for multiple hours
