The term Graduate Assistant is the umbrella term that encompasses all types of GA appointments. Graduate Assistants are employed by the University to teach, conduct research, or assist with administrative duties in departments and non- academic units. Every attempt is made to assign Graduate Assistants to positions that are directly related to the student's field of study or that provide the opportunity to develop transferable, professional skills. Graduate Assistantships are assigned in the department or unit and confirmed by the Graduate School.

Primary Purpose of the Unit:

In support of the mission of UNC Greensboro, the University Registrar's Office fosters student success and cultivates exemplary student experiences for all University constituents related to academic records, policies, and regulations.

Position Summary:

Reporting to the University Registrar, the Graduate Assistant (GA) is responsible for assisting the University Registrar's Office (URO) staff as they provide the highest level of customer service and knowledgeable support through telephone, email, or face to face interactions.

Under the supervision of the URO's Student Services staff, the GA is responsible for working with students and their families to find the answers to basic questions, cataloging issues, and directing requests and unresolved issues to the appropriate resources. The GA may also process enrollment verifications, transcript requests, and provide technical registration guidance to students. This position exposes the selected candidate to a broad range of University administration and some knowledge of University, State, and Federal laws and regulations including the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) is expected to be mastered during the onboarding training period.

The GA will also assist URO staff in the creation of technical documents, operational procedures (OPs), and training manuals. URO staff will help the GA to ensure the accuracy of the process and procedural description.

Finally, the GA will assist one of three following teams in fulfilling duties specific to the business needs of the team:

  • DegreeWorks educational planning
  • Systems & Reporting
  • Records & Registration
  • Minimum Qualifications

    To be eligible for appointments as a graduate assistant, you must: • Maintain academic good standing at all times (3.0). • Be enrolled full-time, which is generally a minimum of 9 credits. • Make satisfactory progress toward your degree as defined by your academic program and the Graduate School. • Meet the requirements to be eligible for employment in the U.S.
