Graduate Assistant for the Jordan College of Agricultural Sciences & Technology

The Office of the Dean seeks graduate students as Graduate Assistant applicants. Graduate Assistants typically are responsible for assisting classroom instruction; assisting faculty in conducting authorized research; and/or assisting faculty in evaluating student work and examinations.

Determinant on successful GA Eligibility and Department Eligibility and adequate funding, the Department is seeking GA applicants to assist faculty in the conduct of special projects/research within the discipline or academic environment.

Anticipated Semester and Appointment Dates :

Fall 2021: August 17, 2021 - December 22, 2021

Spring 2022: January 18, 2022 - May 21, 2022

Hours/Units per week : Students can work up to 20-hours per week;

  • 1-unit is equivalent to 2.66 hrs per week (40hrs x 1-unit/15-unit)
  • 1.3-wtus - 6.5-wtus (dependent on courses and number of section(s) assigned)
  • 3-6 units
  • no more than 6-units, (or not to exceed 7.50 total wtus in one semester, which equates to 20-hours per week)
  • Job Duties may include the following, but will be dependent upon the specific course to which the teaching associate will be assigned, as well as upon the specific needs of the faculty member in charge of the course:

  • Provide professional non-teaching assistance to faculty members,
  • Provide research assistance and practical experience in fields related to their advanced study,
  • May involve supervising students in a classroom, workshop, or laboratory (final responsibility is vested in a member of the faculty),
  • Provide training students in the use of equipment or other resources,
  • Assist faculty with research and preparation of course materials,
  • Participate in evaluation of students' work,
  • Tutoring students.
  • Qualifications:

  • Possession of an approved baccalaureate degree,
  • Must be a student fully admitted to the MA MS MFA Program in the college, in good academic standing, and be enrolled in at least 6-units for the semester or in two courses toward the degree,
  • Must demonstrate satisfactory progress towards the degree,
  • For graduate students with conditional classified standing in the discipline current enrollment in at least six (6) units of graduate study in the program is required,
  • For graduate students already matriculating in the program, a pattern of significant and satisfactory progress toward the completion of the graduate degree is required,
  • Ability to relate well with others within the academic environment and have the ability or potential to learn how to instruct and evaluate students,
  • Ability to assist faculty in the conduct of special projects/research within the discipline,
  • Communication skills appropriate to the instructional setting,
  • Evidence of subject matter competence,
  • Experience in a closely-related discipline,
  • Ability and willingness to work with computers including common word- processing software, and computer and Internet-based language teaching technology.
