Department: Golf Course Reports to: Golf Course Superintendent
Summary: Under general supervision, is responsible for manual and semi-
skilled work in the maintenance of golf course turfs, facilities, and
structures, including cleaning, and minor construction.

employer. Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not
limited to, the following :
Operates mowers and string trimmers in trimming greens, aprons, tees,
around trees, fence lines, banks and hillsides: edges, takes and maintains
sand bunkers.
Cares for turf and trees on the golf course by watering, edging,
transplanting, renovating, sodding, weeding, spiking, aerifying, cutting
and manicuring for improved playing conditions.
Cares for sand traps by raking by hand or by powered sand trap rakes.
Trims and removes weeds and grass from sand traps by hand or with hand
powered sand trap rakes.
Cares for ornamental plantings around golf course facilities and
structures.
Performs custodial work such as removing papers, rubbish, and leaves
around facilities.
Cleans and maintains restrooms, water fountains, ball washing equipment.
Cleans and maintains equipment.
Keeps accurate time records of daily tasks.
Sets tee markers and cups on greens.
Performs overtime work when required.
Assists in construction projects as necessary.
Inspects golf course facilities and reports to assistant superintendent or
superintendent.
Regularly and timely attendance as scheduled.
Supports the relationship between the City of Odessa and the general
public by demonstrating courteous and cooperative behavior when
interacting with visitors and City staff; maintains confidentiality of
work-related issues and City information; performs other duties as
required or assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education, Training and Experience Guidelines: High School Diploma or GED
preferred. Prefer six (6) months of outdoor work experience.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of the tools, turf equipment, methods and practices of grounds
and turf maintenance on golf course facilities and structures.
Knowledge of the safe and efficient operation and care of powered turf
equipment such as used in turf maintenance on a golf course.
Knowledge of proper maintenance of select turf grasses and ornamental
plantings.
Knowledge of the proper methods to set up a golf course for play and
servicing its related equipment.
Skill to operate various small power equipment.
Thorough knowledge of / and ability to follow established safety
procedures.
Ability to perform strenuous work in extremes of hot or cold weather.
Ability to assist in the repair of buildings and other structures using
light carpentry skills.
Dependability and excellent physical condition.
Ability to deal effectively with co-workers, supervisors, and the general
public.
Ability to keep accurate time records of work performed throughout the
workday.
Safety Requirement: City approved safety shoes must be worn.
License and certification requirements: A valid Texas State Driver's
License is required.
Physical Requirements: Besides the physical requirements mentioned above,
the employee will be required to meet the following physical requirements:
Lifting: 50+ pounds to load and unload trash barrels, powered and
manual lawn maintenance equipment.
Agility: Required to use hands for fine manipulation during use of
hand tools and other equipment such as trimmers, edgers, mowers, sand
blaster and vehicles.
Vision: Required to see visual signals such as lights, signs and color
changes while driving. Must use peripheral and depth perception vision in
driving situations and while maintaining and operating equipment.
Hearing: Uses auditory senses to listen to oral communications on
radio; to receive instructions while working with other employees to
complete an assigned task; hear equipment with potential problems so
equipment can be repaired for safety of personnel and equipment.
Environment: Ability to work in extreme conditions such as sleet, ice
and snow or extreme heat and sunshine. High noise factors are present
during operation of or while working in the vicinity of operating
equipment. This employee primarily works outdoors.
Other Physical Requirements: Must stand, walk, bend, kneel, reach and
lift overhead, squat, pick, push, pull and dig while performing job
duties.
