The incumbent is expected to exhibit exceptional performance and strong leadership skills as the manager of the Gold Technology Group and the leader of the P420 project. The incumbent has an exemplary track record of excellence and be recognized nationally and internationally as an exceptional leader in both the gold mining industry and academia.

This position plays a crucial role in research and consulting activities, making significant, original, and innovative contributions within the Gold Technology Group, which is supported by the Amira P420 project. The AMIRA P420 Gold Processing Project has been a valuable resource for the gold and precious metals industry for over 38 years.

About the role

Duties of your role will include:

  • Lead the research and consulting programs within the Gold Technology Group.
  • Provide leadership and mentoring to academic staff in relation to research and HDR
  • Supervision within the school/faculty and university.
  • Provide leadership in the development of research and professional linkages and relationships with the external stakeholders from the gold mining industry.
  • Be an effective advocate for excellence and innovation in the gold mining industry at a national and international level.
  • Provide leadership and foster and promote relationships with professional bodies, industry and affiliated associations, government departments, and the wider community.
  • Undertake demand driven research relevant to the gold mining industry.
  • Produce significant research outputs with publication in high quality journals, or outputs in other creative outlets consistent with a national and international reputation in the gold mining industry and academia.
  • Edit high quality international works or journals.
  • Develop international recognition for research through presenting at major national and international conferences/exhibitions.
  • Undertake supervision of honours, research masters, and research doctoral students.
  • Participate in the delivery of research led educational programs as required by the Head of School.

    Essential

  • A doctoral qualification in Metallurgical Engineering (or equivalent) and/or relevant industry experience in the gold mining industry.
  • Substantial experience in mineral processing and/or hydrometallurgy that is relevant to the gold mining industry.
  • Demonstrated leadership of research in the gold mining industry and/or academia.
  • An established record of research outputs with publication in high quality peer-reviewed journals, or outputs in other creative outlets relevant to the gold mining industry.
  • Evidence of an established international reputation and profile and a commitment to conducting on-going research in the gold mining industry.
  • Demonstrated leadership and mentoring of staff in relation to their professional development and extensive experience.
  • Demonstrated high level communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to foster and promote the development of a collegial and supportive working environment and the ability to interact with students and staff with cross cultural sensitivity.
  • Demonstrated commitment to applying relevant and applicable policies, procedures, and legislation in the day-to-day performance of the functions of this position.
  • Desirable

  • Demonstrated contribution to teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate level.
  • A significant record of obtaining research income, including nationally competitive research grants and/or fellowships relevant to the discipline.
  • Considerable experience and record of successful supervision of HDR students.
