Position Title General Service Person

Job Description

Clean, wax and maintain University building floors, bathrooms, and individual offices; empty trash containers and reline if necessary; sweep, dust, mop, wet mop or vacuum floors; damp mop floors with disinfectant solution; wipe and disinfect telephones; clean and disinfect drinking fountains; wash interior glass and door windows as needed; dust shelves and/or edges; clean entire surface of bathrooms sinks with appropriate cleanser; swab toilet bowls and urinals with disinfectant; clean foot mats, pick up paper and sweep walkways; clean and prepare custodial equipment for next day's work; make up beds as needed and clean shower walls, soap trays and shower curtains; perform minor repairs and minor carpentry work as needed

Required Qualifications

Must be knowledgeable of various cleaning methods; must be able to read cleaning labels and instructions for cleaning solutions; must be able to follow basic work instructions; must be able to climb and work on stools, ladders, stairs and elevated platforms with training and safety equipment; must be able to write and complete required forms and paperwork on noted conditions in buildings such as leaky faucets, commodes out of order, lights out of order; some custodian experience is preferred
