Simulating a target quantum system is one of the most promising applications of quantum computing. In line with that, this research project aims at the evaluation and development of robust NISQ quantum-enhanced approaches and sensible use-cases to simulate active materials (in cathodes or anodes) of Li-ion batteries. A special focus should be given to embedding/fragmentation approaches (like density matrix embedding theory) and variational quantum algorithms. The project is a collaborative effort with experts from the BMW group.

Your qualifications
  • An excellent Master degree either in Computer Science, Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics or relat-ed fields, ideally with a background in Quantum Theory and Computation, Computational Physics or Numerical Computing
  • Knowledge of variational quantum algorithms or methods for simulating quantum systems
  • Familiarity with the quantum formalism of fermionic systems
  • Openness to communicate, cooperate and exchange ideas with domain experts
