The Department of Computer Science of Technical University of Darmstadt invites applications for the position of a

Full Professor (W3) for „Resilient Networked Computing“

effective as soon as possible.

We are looking for an outstanding scientist who will represent the topic area of resilient networked computing in research and teaching with a computer science perspective. The professorship shall address selected grand challenges at the intersection of the following topic areas: availability/dependability/resiliency/security, computer networks and distributed systems, and complex interconnected software systems. Selected research topics of interest are:

  • Complex networked or massively distributed software systems with mission- critical requirements regarding availability/dependability (cyber- physical systems, Internet of things, autonomous systems, etc.)
  • Novel paradigms for increasing the resilience of networked computing systems through stress absorption, efficient recovery, or system adaptation
  • Fundamentals/theory of analysis, modelling and design of resilient/dependable computing systems
  • Systems support to increase the resilience; system support for/using AI- methods
  • Inherently scalable, resilient distributed/decentralized security mechanisms
  • Reconfiguration and adaptation of computing systems under disruptive conditions (natural disaster, large-scale cyberattacks, blackouts, etc.)
  • Resilience in intelligent (smart) environments and application domains such as healthcare, critical infrastructures, or digital cities
  • Candidates are expected to represent the topic area in our undergraduate as well as graduate-level computer science programs.

    We expect an outstanding scientific profile documented by research impact. We expect candidates to have documented expertise and contributed novel approaches addressing the core questions of resilient networked computing systems: algorithms, protocols, software and system design, modelling and performance analysis, etc. A proven track record of successful collaboration in international research teams and with industry is advantageous.

    The professorship shall strengthen the research focus on complex interconnected systems at the Department of Computer Science as well as the research field information and intelligence on the university level. Collaboration with other focus areas such as artificial intelligence and cybersecurity on the department and university level is welcome. The professorship is embedded into the research centre LOEWE emergenCITY. Affiliation with the National Research Center for Cybersecurity ATHENE and the Hessian Center for Artificial Intelligence hessian.ai are possible and welcome.

    In addition to excellent scientific credentials and a completed doctoral degree, a commitment to teaching is important. It is expected that the candidate will contribute to teaching in the bachelor´s and master's degree programs of the Department of Computer Science. Participation in academic governance is expected.

    The position is tenured with a remuneration package commensurate with experience and qualifications, following the German “W-Besoldung” and subject to negotiations between the applicant and the university directorate. The regulations for employment are specified under §§ 61 and 62 HHG (Hessisches Hochschulgesetz).
