Job description

Are you a visionary leader in the fields of Building Services, HVAC, and Mechanical Engineering, with a distinguished international reputation? Do you possess a fervent dedication to cutting-edge research, education, and fostering interdisciplinary collaborations?

Job Description

As a Full Professor in Building Services, you will leverage your extensive academic expertise to showcase excellence in the domains of building services, HVAC, and mechanical engineering.

Your primary responsibility within the Building Services research group is to further the know-how in the domain to seamlessly integrate building services into building design, improve the operational phase and/or for smart commissioning. Our objective is to create healthier, more comfortable, and sustainable buildings. Potential avenues for your future research initiatives include, but are not limited to:

  • Building energy management systems
  • Renewable energy systems
  • Energy conversion technologies
  • Building – Electrical grid interaction
  • Machine Learning and advanced data analysis
  • Furthermore, in line with the department's ethos, you will spearhead and sustain cross-disciplinary partnerships with other subdisciplines within the department to amplify their impact on societal challenges, both in education and research. Collaboration with external entities, including other departments and industry partners through TU/e institutes, is strongly encouraged.

You will be affiliated with the Building Physics and Services (BPS) unit, which comprises six main focus areas, namely: Building Acoustics, Building Lighting, Building Materials, Building Performance, Building Physics, and Building Services. Together they constitute the Building Physics and Services research program, with an outstanding international reputation.

You will be collaborating closely with existing academic staff, including our assistant professor within the Building Services research group. In your capacity as a professor, your leadership skills will be instrumental in nurturing talent development, considering the diverse backgrounds and cultures that an internationally oriented university like ours embodies. Beyond research and education, you will share departmental management responsibilities by actively participating in unit BPS strategy and departmental managerial tasks.

    The Department

The Department of the Built Environment is a vibrant hub of multidisciplinary knowledge, spanning architecture, urban planning, and building technology, including structural design, building physics, materials technology, and building information modeling. Our scope ranges from materials to buildings to cities, with a focus on the human impact of design and technology. We embrace diversity and blend teaching, research, and design to empower students to become thought leaders and shape the future of cities and the construction industry.

Our department comprises approximately 260 academic staff members, including about 190 PhDs, EngDs, and Postdocs, organized into disciplinary units. We encourage scientists to collaborate across their fields of expertise to tackle key themes: energy transition, sustainability, and inclusiveness. We forge partnerships with other TU/e institutes in Energy Transition (EIRES), Artificial Intelligence (EAISI), and the self-founded Urban Development Initiative (UDI), creating ecosystems with government agencies and industry to contribute to a sustainable, inclusive built environment.

    Job requirements
  • A motivated and ambitious researcher in Building Services, with a track record of high-quality academic research evidenced by a relevant PhD thesis and publications in high-impact journals.
