The Southend Campus Library team at The Forum is part of the University of Essex Library and Cultural Services, encompassing 3 libraries at our campuses at Colchester, Southend and Loughton.

Duties of the Role

We are looking for an enthusiastic, customer-oriented individual to support the Southend Campus Librarian in providing user focused library services at the Southend campus. The successful candidate will provide a warm welcome at the Info Point desk in The Learning Hub and support University students and staff with library and IT enquiries. They will be actively involved in engaging students and staff and promoting the library services. They will assist with Library inductions and user-engagement activities and should be proactive and able to use their own initiative.

Skills and qualifications required

The post-holder will possess excellent customer service skills and have experience working in a customer-oriented environment. They should be confident using IT and have knowledge of and experience using Microsoft Office applications. The ideal candidate will be reliable and have a flexible and positive attitude.

They will be a team player and have excellent communication skills. A knowledge of library systems and experience working in a library environment is desirable, but training will be provided. Education to A-Level standard or equivalent is essential to this role.

At the University of Essex, internationalism and diversity is central to who we are and what we do. We are committed to being a cosmopolitan, internationally oriented university that is welcoming to staff and students from all countries, faiths and backgrounds, where you can find the world in one place.

To support this commitment we have our Global Forum, a staff-led network that promotes and celebrates the rich cultural diversity among Essex staff, and our Colchester campus based Faith Centre, which hosts regular services, meetings and events organised by our chaplains and faith representatives.
