  • The Faculty of Psychology and Education Sciences of the University of Porto (FPCEUP) welcomes

    applications for two (2) research studentships for the project “ClimActiveCitizen: Connecting

    Citizenship and Science for Climate Adaptation” (ClimActiC), funded by the European Regional

    Development Fund (ERDF), through NORTE 2020 – Norte Regional Operational Programme (grant

    No. NORTE-01-0145-FEDER-000071), and developed at the Centre for Research and Intervention

    in Education (CIIE) of the Faculty of Psychology and Education Sciences of the University of Porto.

    The project is coordinated by Isabel Menezes and co-coordinated by Ana Cristina Torres.

    1. Research field / Scientific area: Educational Sciences

    2. Admission requirements:

    To apply for the research studentships, applicants must comply with the following requirements, for

    which documentary evidence must be provided:

    a) Be a student enrolled in a master's programme in Educational Sciences, a requirement to be

    duly proven at the time of signing the contract;

    b) Hold a degree in Educational Sciences, Psychology or other Social Sciences, or in other areas

    relevant to the project (e.g., Biology, Chemistry, Environmental Engineering);

    c) Have experience of participating in research initiatives and/or educational, community or

    activist intervention, preferably in the field of environmental education or of education for


    If the candidate holds a degree awarded by a foreign higher education institution, it must be recognised by a Portuguese

    higher education institution, in accordance with the provisions of article 25 of Decree-Law no. 66/2018 of 16 August,

    which approves the legal regime for the recognition of academic degrees and higher education diplomas awarded by

    foreign higher education institutions and Article 4 (2) (e) of Decree-Law no. 60/2018 of 3 August, and any formalities

    established therein be fulfilled up to the date of the contracting act.

    3. Preferred requirements:

    The preferred requirements, for which documentary evidence must be provided, are:

    a) Enrollment in the specific domain “Education for Climate Change and Sustainability” at the

    Master's Programme in Educational Sciences at FPCEUP;

    b) Previous training and/or experience in research methodologies in social sciences, in areas

    relevant to the project (e.g., environmental education, education on climate change,

    education for citizenship, education for sustainability, teacher education and professional

    development, ...), preferably in participatory research methodologies;

    c) Experience in organising knowledge dissemination activities, including community

    involvement activities, with non-academic audiences;

    d) (Co)authorship of scientific publications;

    e) Fluency (oral and written) in English and in Portuguese (in case the candidate does not have

    a certificate of competences, a can sworn statement might be provided);

    f) Willingness to travel frequently throughout the North of Portugal (to be declared in the

    motivation letter).

    4. Work plan:

    Activities and tasks to be developed include:

    a) Collaboration in the development of two project work packages (collaborative work with

    schools and communities);

    b) Participation in activities of data collection and analysis;

    c) Collaboration in the writing of scientific reports and articles and presentation of papers at

    scientific meetings;

    d) Contact and communication with partner institutions and participants;

    e) Support project management and administrative tasks, carrying out necessary activity to

    achieve the planned objectives.

    5. Applicable Legislation and Regulation:

    Portuguese Law no. 40/2004, dated August 18 (Scientific Research Fellow Statute) in its current

    wording; and University of Porto's Regulation for Research Studentships and Fellowships, approved

    by the Regulation no. 184/2021, dated March 3.

    6. Workplace:

    The workplace shall be at CIIE facilities at FPCEUP, Rua Alfredo Allen, 4200-135 Porto, and at other

    places where the project will be implemented, under the supervision of Isabel Menezes and Ana

    Cristina Torres.

    7. Duration:

    Each studentship has an initial duration of 12 months, on an exclusive basis, possibly renewable for

    equal or different time periods, until the end of the project, depending on the project scientific needs

    and financial provisions.

    8. Monthly allowance:

    The monthly stipend is 835,98 Euros, according to the table of grant amounts for positions held in

    Portugal (https: // www. fct.pt/apoios/bolsas/valores.phtml.en). Payment will be made by FPCEUP

    through bank transfer. In addition, the studentship holder will be covered by a personal accident


    9. Evaluation methods:

    Evaluation methods are: curricular evaluation (AC) and, if the panel deems it necessary, an interview

    (E), partially in English, to the highest ranked candidates (max. of three) in curricular evaluation.

    The interview (E), if necessary, will have a weight of 30% to the final score. In case an interview is

    held, the final score (FS) is calculated according to the formula AC 0,7 + E 0,3, expressed on a

    scale of 0 to 100 points. If there is no interview, the final score will be the same as the one obtained

    at AC.

    The evaluation criteria and weighing factors are as follows:

    a) Academic/professional path and the adequacy of the area and of training path to the project

    – 25%;

    b) Proven experience in data collection and analysis methods in areas relevant to the project –


    c) Proven experience in research and/or educational and community intervention, including in

    the field of socio-environmental activism and in the dissemination of knowledge – 20%;

    d) Scientific production – 15%;

    e) Expressed motivation, at the motivation letter, to develop a master's project in the ClimActiC

    area– 20%.

    If the interview is held, it will be evaluated the candidates ability to express themselves in Portuguese

    and English language, specific knowledge to carry out the work plan, and the attitude, behaviour and

    interaction with the panel.

    Based on the final ranking list, a reserve list will be created, which will be used until June 2022, or the possible hiring of

    new grant recipients under this project. In the event that none of the candidates demonstrates to have the profile

    indicated for the execution of the work plan, the selection panel reserves the right not to award the studentships.

    10. Selection panel:

    Chairperson: Isabel Menezes, Full Professor at FPCEUP and PI of the project;

    Members: Ana Cristina Torres, Researcher at CIIE/FPCEUP and Co-PI of the project; Carla

    Malafaia, Researcher at CIIE/FPCEUP;

    Alternate member: Amélia Lopes, Full Professor at FPCEUP.

    11. Disclosure of the results:

    Evaluation results will be communicated by email to the address provided by the candidates in the

    application form.

    In compliance with the provisions of the Article 121 of the Code of Administrative Procedure (“Código

    do Procedimento Administrativo”), after being notified, candidates have 10 working days to submit

    a formal rebuttal.

    The final decision must be taken within a maximum period of 60 working days after the conclusion

    of the preliminary hearing of interested parties or of the public consultation.
