The Department of Astronomy and Astrophysics at the University of California,
Santa Cruz (UCSC) invites applications for an assistant project scientist.
Under the direction of Professor Jonathan Fortney, the project scientist will
lead a research program in models of giant planet interiors. In the position
the scientist will develop new computational methods to investigate
constraints on the interior structure of Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune,
using new data sets from NASA Missions like Juno, Cassini, and future
missions. The project scientist will also work with other members of Fortney's
group, including postdocs, graduate students, and undergraduates, with the
expectation that the scientist mentor 1-2 students during the position on
research projects developed by the scientist and Professor Fortney.
Applicants with expertise in python and usage of high-performance computing
resources, collaborative development platforms like GitHub, and mentoring
experience for students at the undergraduate and graduate student level are
