Salary Information Grade 8 Department Summary
The Center for Human Identification (CHI) is an accredited forensic laboratory on the campus of The University of North Texas Health Science Center at Fort Worth. With funding from the State of Texas and various Federal Government agencies, CHI supports forensic DNA testing, anthropological examinations, local CODIS operations, training, and various research and development initiatives. CHI also manages the Texas Missing Persons DNA Database.
Position Overview
Perform lab duties to include DNA extraction, quantification, amplification and loading of forensic samples onto analytical instruments for analysis to support forensic casework in criminal investigations. Assists in performing daily maintenance and stocking of laboratories.

Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma or GED and three (3) years of related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in biology, chemistry or related science discipline and minimum of one (1) year of relevant experience.
Required License / Registration / Certification
Ability to apply for, obtain and continue to maintain a Forensic Technician License by the Texas Forensic Science Commission.

Job Duties
o
Perform casework evidence examination following all Quality Assurance Manual and Protocol/ Procedure Manual guidelines.
o
Perform extractions, quantifications, amplifications, and load samples on the genetic analyzers for processing of forensic casework samples..
o
Work with the analyst to determine which samples may require re-extractions, re-amplification, or re-loading.
o
Maintain proficiency by completing two external proficiency tests per year as required by the National Standards.
o
Assist in performing equipment maintenance, performance checks, and calibrations.
o
Perform daily equipment checks and stock laboratories.
