Position Overview

Position Summary

This position serves as the Financial Reporting Manager, supervising staff responsible

for the integrity of the University's financial reporting system and being the point of contact for financial reporting activities. This includes annual preparation of the Annual Consolidated Financial Report (ACFR), Financial Statements, IPEDS, timely and accurate closing of monthly financial records through NCAS. Supervising staff members, financial monitoring and analysis including transfers, requisitions, and reconciliation of all University funds in North Carolina Financial System (NCFS) and Banner, double entry accounting, preparation and review of journal entries, review and approval of reconciliation of bank statements, monitoring of cash balances, preparation of financial analysis and reports, reconciliation of clearing accounts, and other financial analysis and reports as needed. This position will oversee the UNC FIT initiative related to General Accounting.

Department Required Skills

Graduation from a four-year college or university with a degree in Accounting or related field. Five years of progressively responsible professional experience in financial reporting and general accounting.

Experience working with integrated financial software (Banner preferred).

The incumbent in this position must be able to independently resolve and/or develop recommendations for unprecedented, complex issues and problems, especially those related to general ledger entries, corrections, journal entries, and NCAS. This position serves as a resource for others within the University in resolving unprecedented, non-standard issues and problems. The manager must be able to anticipate problems within the reporting area and develop recommendations for management resolution. Discretion and Independence of Actions: This position requires in-depth knowledge and skills in financial accounting, accounting theories, and principles, including generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and governmental accounting (GASB). This position must have proficient knowledge of Banner Finance, NCFS, and CORE Banking for daily use and is required to develop, test, and implement system changes related to job functions. This position must thoroughly understand, follow, and enforce the University, Office of State Treasurer, Office of State Budget and Management, and Office of State Controller policies, procedures, and guidelines, recognize complex and unique issues, and develop or recommend resolutions for such issues.
