Posting Summary

Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Financial Analyst for the Finance Office Department within Robert Wood Johnson Medical School.

The Financial Analyst is responsible for the accounting of investigator's projects, and assisting the Research Support Team in the submissions of grant proposals and implements financial controls by utilizing accounting techniques.

Among the key duties of this position are the following:

  • Serves as the financial analyst as a member of the RWJMS Research Support Team: Will provide pre and post award financial support on financial of assigned restricted sponsored project funds within the clinical departments and institutes: Anesthesiology, Dermatology, Emergency Medicine, Family Medicine, Neurology, Neurosurgery, OB/GYN, Orthopedic Surgery Pathology & Laboratory Medicine, Pediatrics, Psychiatry, Radiology, Surgery, The Cardiovascular Institute of New Jersey and Child Health Institute of New Jersey.
  • Prepares account reconciliations and financial analyses for all accounts assigned for sponsored programs.
  • Reviews financial statements for salary or non-salary items charged to projects, assist in reconciling and closing out of accounts.
  • Maintains spreadsheets of new grant awards and grant proposals by individual investigator and consolidated departmental spreadsheet by fiscal year. Prepares reconciliation spreadsheets on existing grants.
  • Prepares monthly project reports for grants, approves MarketPlace requisitions and provides responses to inquiries from the Directors of the Administrative Offices. Also assists with the preparation of the annual research budgets within the clinical departments.
  • Processes changes to employee charging instructions and Cost Transfers in a timely manner.
  • Reviews and approves expense reports submitted on grant project accounts.

    Qualifications

    Minimum Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, business administration or related field.
  • Comprehensive understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
  • Minimum three (3) to five (5) years accounting / financial experience preferably in a higher education environment.
  • Equivalent experience, education and/or training may be substituted for the education requirements.
  • Certifications/Licenses Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Adobe Acrobat.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and organization skills, and the ability to attend to multiple demanding priorities.
  • Exhibit a positive customer service attitude.
  • Ability to work independently and professionally with limited supervision.
  • Ability to identify and proactively address potential problems or issues.
  • Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Oracle Financial Management, PeopleSoft Management, Discoverer Viewer, MarketPlace Procurement system (SciQuest) and Expense Management.
