Job Summary
The Financial Aid Specialist will assist the Director and Assistant Director
of Financial Aid in the management of day-today activities of the department.
The primary responsibilities of this position include assisting students and
families with financial aid options and processing federal, state and
institutional financial aid applications in accordance with federal, state and
college regulations.
Essential Duties
Assist the Financial Aid Director in all aspects of financial aid.
Assists in the daily operations of the office as necessary including front
counter customer service, phones, mailings, data entry and retrieval, and
file organization. For all areas.
Assists in the administration of all Federal, State and Institutional Aid
programs at the College.
Ensures the maintenance of federal reports and student financial aid
records and files as they relate to the financial aid programs.
Remains current in knowledge of and provides accurate information to
students and staff related to Federal Pell Grant, Florida grants and
scholarships, veterans' programs, Federal Work-Study, scholarships, FSEOG,
student loans and federal, state, and college rules and regulations
related to financial aid.
Determines student eligibility for work-study and processes student awards
timely and accurately.
Corresponds effectively and in a timely manner with students concerning
eligibility, academic progress, and award amount.
Processes all payments and disbursements for program funds accurately and
efficiently.
Maintains accurate and timely fiscal reporting of all program
expenditures.
Enters student financial records and maintains accuracy of database.
Administers and monitors Federal Work-Study program to include processing
of placement paperwork with the Human Resources Office and Payroll
department, reviewing timesheets on a semi-monthly basis for submission to
the Payroll department, and reviewing total expenditures to keep within
the Federal Work-Study budget.
Responsible for the year-end reconciliation of the Federal Work Study
program for submission on annual FISAP.
Assists in the administration of all Federal, State and Institutional Aid
programs.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
Regionally accredited bachelor's degree required
Minimum Requirements
One to two year(s) of experience in higher education.
One year in Financial Aid or Scholarship Office.
Preferred Qualifications
Working knowledge of regulations governing federal, state and
institutional policies regarding administration of financial aid, i.e.
Federal Direct Loans, NDSL, Federal Work Study Programs, EdFund, Sallie
Mae, EdConnect, EdExpress, Cal Grants and Web Express.
Knowledge of PowerFAIDS and Microsoft Office (MS Windows, Word, Excel).
Ability to analyze and interpret federal and state regulations pertaining
to student aid.
Ability to maintain effective working relationships with diverse/multi-
culture faculty, students, staff and external contacts.
Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks
simultaneously, ability to prioritize and meet deadlines.
Excellent proactive communication skills, ability to negotiate, make
requests and provide leadership.
Strong problem-solving skills and ability to address complex issues.
Ability to communicate technological needs to Information Services staff.
Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.
