Description

Financial Aid Advisor – II

Summary

The Financial Aid Advisor is responsible to determine aid eligibility, performs needs analysis, and verifies/certifies the awarding of aid to applicants, including federal, state, institutional, and private aid. Reviews appeals and makes professional judgment decisions regarding student aid eligibility. Administers student financial aid programs with integrity and excellent customer service. Provides financial aid services and advising to applicants, students, their parents, community members, and college employees. The Financial Aid Advisor will report to the Director of Financial Aid.

Specific Responsibilities

  • Assist with, implement, coordinate, and maintain financial aid data collection and entry for compliance with federal and state regulations.
  • Package federal, state, and institutional award eligibility for students in accordance with financial aid policies.
  • Audit packages after registration to verify aid awarded matches eligibility based off registration.
  • Calculate Federal Work-Study awards, coordinate with HR regarding application/payroll, and perform year-end reconciliation.
  • Evaluate and update student information on the National Student Loan Data System (NSLDS) to resolve student issues.
  • Correspond with students and parents as needed to develop a professional relationship and ensure all questions answered, and issues addressed, appropriately and accurately.
  • Complete initial review of incoming ISIRs and send out appropriate documents to students.
  • Review incoming verification documents, update as necessary in FAA, and communicate with student if additional documentation is needed.
  • Facilitate communication between departments.
  • Maintains notes within CRM system to verify documentation is recorded.
  • Attends trainings and conferences in key areas to maintain an understanding of federal and state regulations and trends.
  • Occasional evening and weekend hours may be required.
  • Perform other financial aid assignments and special projects as assigned
  • Qualifications

    Minimum Qualifications

  • Associates degree - business related field is preferred
  • Financial Aid experience helpful
  • Knowledge of Federal and State funding programs helpful
  • Ability to accurately process a high volume of detailed work within specific time constraints
  • Ability to quickly shift between tasks
  • Work both independently and collaboratively
  • Excellent customer service and written communication skills
  • VA knowledge is helpful.
