Position Summary
The Financial Aid Advisor contributes to the University's mission by providing
key support for financial aid processes that enable students to obtain a
Taylor education. She/he facilitates cohesive office operations, serving as
the primary point-of-contact for initial communications with current and
prospective students and parents regarding financial aid matters. The Advisor
ensures systems and files are maintained so that the financial aid team,
students, and parents have complete and accurate information; communicates
with campus stakeholders regarding scholarships; and interfaces with external
parties regarding tuition waivers and church matching programs.
Duties and Responsibilities
This position is primarily responsible to:
Testify to personal experience of salvation in Jesus Christ, affirm belief
in the University's Statement of Faith, abide by and practice our Life
Together Covenant, and both personally agree with and support the
Foundational Documents of Taylor University.
Establish and maintain a warm and professional environment to all guests
to the Financial Aid office, including welcoming visitors, answering
phones and emails, and serving as first point of contact for answering
questions.
Provide administrative support for the Financial Aid office including
scheduling meetings and appointments, and ensuring proper working order of
office equipment and supplies.
Coordinate interoffice and external correspondence, including sending
award letter notifications and information requests; financial aid updates
and reminders; notices of exit loan counseling; and application
information mass mailings.
Administrate database functions, ensuring accurate data for financial aid
team; this includes importing data for undergraduate and graduate
students; auditing data and cleaning up errors and duplicates; and
ensuring documentation received is logged in the system and files.
Perform preliminary screening of financial aid application materials for
completion.
Create and maintain the Church Matching Grant program database; this
includes processing pledge forms and payments and answering program
questions.
Assist parents and students in resolving discrepancies with billing
statements and award letters.
Ensure campus stakeholders have relevant scholarship information for
internal and external communication.
Coordinate applications and correspondence for tuition waiver exchange
programs.
Collaborate with Vocational Rehabilitation offices on reporting and
securing funds for eligible students.
Other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience
High school degree or equivalent.
2-3 years relevant work experience, required.
Skills and Competencies
Excellent customer service skills.
Clear, direct, timely, and compassionate written and verbal communication
style.
Competent in utilizing various computer software, including database
systems, and Microsoft Office suite; ability and willingness to learn new
software programs.
Detail-oriented and able to identify errors in own work, self-correcting
as needed.
Possess solid organizational and task management skills.
Ability and willingness to learn financial aid terms and details.
Adaptable and flexible to change tasks quickly; collaborative team player
who can also work independently.
Ability to work with sensitive information and maintain confidentiality.
Special Requirements
Physical Demands
No or very limited physical effort is required.
Work Environment
Work is normally performed in a typical interior / office work environment.
Environmental Conditions
No or very limited exposure to physical risk.
This position is full-time, non-exempt, and located in Upland, Indiana.
