Project/Unit Description
The FPGA Engineer position in the Electronic Systems Laboratory (ELSYS)
Applied Embedded Systems Division (AES) supports design,
development, and implementation of a wide variety of algorithms in software
and programmable hardware using the latest high-speed/high-density
FPGAs/System-on-Chips (SoCs). This may include high bandwidth data
collection, digital signal processing, data manipulation, custom interfaces,
and SoC processor interaction. Development work will support research and
applications in the radar and electronic warfare domains.
Job Purpose
The Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA) Engineer supports the design,
development, and implementation of a wide variety of functionality and
algorithms in programmable hardware using the latest high-speed/high-density
FPGAs and System-on-Chips (SoC). This position may include high bandwidth
data collection, digital signal processing, data manipulation, custom
interfaces, and SoC processor interaction. Additional responsibilities
typically include analyzing system and functional requirements to design,
develop, and validate firmware for very-high-speed integrated circuits using a
Hardware Description Language (VHDL, Verilog) and interface requirements and
implementation to data converter chips. The FPGA engineer is then responsible
for modeling and simulating the design in a test bench environment for
validation purposes.
Key Responsibilities
Perform firmware development using a Hardware Description Language (VHDL,
Verilog)
Develop test bench models to simulate and validate design
Integrate system components and support equipment in a laboratory setting
Contribute to technical reports and presentations
Contribute to white papers, and competitive proposals
Additional Responsibilities
Analyze system and functional requirements to develop solutions.
Serve as a technical expert on assigned projects and systems including
keeping up-to-date on industry standards, system interfaces, engineering
tools, and road maps for current and future updates.
Participate in technical meetings with GTRI and sponsor personnel.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Minimum Qualifications
Experience in FPGA development.
Experience with Xilinx or Altera/Intel FPGAs.
Experience with debugging and testing.
Candidates currently enrolled in an accredited degree program relevant to
this position will be considered. The candidate must have a graduation
date of no later than May, 2022.
Preferred Qualifications
Active Secret Clearance.
Experience with VHDL.
Experience with embedded processors such as Microblaze or ARM SoC.
Experience with embedded software (C/C++).
Experience with high-speed digital sampling and processing of RF signals.
Experience developing systems for military or high-reliability
applications.
