Project/Unit DescriptionThe FPGA Engineer position in the Electronic Systems Laboratory (ELSYS) Applied Embedded Systems Division (AES) supports design, development, and implementation of a wide variety of algorithms in software and programmable hardware using the latest high-speed/high-density FPGAs/System-on-Chips (SoCs). This may include high bandwidth data collection, digital signal processing, data manipulation, custom interfaces, and SoC processor interaction. Development work will support research and applications in the radar and electronic warfare domains.
Job PurposeThe Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA) Engineer supports the design, development, and implementation of a wide variety of functionality and algorithms in programmable hardware using the latest high-speed/high-density FPGAs and System-on-Chips (SoC). This position may include high bandwidth data collection, digital signal processing, data manipulation, custom interfaces, and SoC processor interaction. Additional responsibilities typically include analyzing system and functional requirements to design, develop, and validate firmware for very-high-speed integrated circuits using a Hardware Description Language (VHDL, Verilog) and interface requirements and implementation to data converter chips. The FPGA engineer is then responsible for modeling and simulating the design in a test bench environment for validation purposes.
