Postdoctoral Fellow, Purdue Puentes Project, Purdue University

The Purdue Puentes Project (PPP) at Purdue University is an interdisciplinary project headed by Dr. Yumary Ruiz, Associate Professor in the Department of Public Health and Dr. Zoe Taylor, Associate Professor in the Department of Human Development and Family Studies. The NIH-funded project is examining the health, adjustment, and well-being of Latinx youth (ages 10-15) in farm and agricultural worker families across four years. This research aims to advance understanding of the risk factors that are detrimental to the health and well-being of youth in seasonal and agricultural families, to identify resilience processes that counteract salient life stressors, and to assess the effects of mobility on adolescent outcomes.

The postdoctoral fellow will act as a project director for the study in conjunction with the Principal Investigators and a current postdoc. Primary responsibilities will include assisting with project including recruitment and community outreach, data collection, data cleaning, retention efforts, supervision and training of staff and students, data analysis, and preparation of manuscripts. Weekend hours and evenings will sometimes be required. Minimum one-year commitment and residence in West Lafayette is required. The position has the potential to be renewed for multiple years pending successful first year.

Qualifications

Qualifications include:

A Ph.D. in Human Development & Family Studies/ Public Health/ Developmental Psychology/ or another related field completed by the start of the employment.

Bilingual in English and Spanish strongly preferred.

Strong analytical skills (including multilevel and longitudinal analyses of nested data) and experience with statistical analysis packages (e.g. MPlus, R, STATA).

Experience collecting and analyzing qualitative data is beneficial.

Excellent writing skills and experience with submitting manuscripts to academic journals.

Ability to work well independently as well as be part of a team.

Strong supervisory skills.

Great organization skills and attention to detail.

Experience working with Latinx youth and families (particularly immigrant or farmworker families) is preferred.
