ECU Department of Campus Recreation and Wellness are seeking several Aquatic Lifeguards and Swim Instructors to fulfill the following duties:
Aquatic Lifeguards responsibilities include: • Actively contribute as a student-staff member of CRW. • Advocate for awareness, understanding and the diversity and inclusion of all people in Campus Recreation & Wellness facilities, programs and communication while providing a commitment to work effectively with students, faculty, and staff from diverse backgrounds. • Advocate for the educational and cultural benefits of providing diversity and inclusion in the aquatics area • Respond to all in-water and dry land emergencies • Administer CPR and/or First-Aid to anyone needing help in CRW facilities or related facilities • Answer questions regarding aquatic programs and procedures • Correctly test and document pool chemicals. • Clean, maintain and disinfect the pool decks, equipment, and lifeguard chairs • Enforce all facility rules, policies and procedures • Effectively communicate to patrons the proper use of equipment • Report and document all injuries, incidents, or near misses in an appropriate way • Remove and install pool lap lanes as needed • Set up and tear down for special events and programs • Provide mentorship to employees by communicating detailed feedback in a constructive manner. • Uphold the integrity of Aquatics at Campus Recreation & Wellness, and East Carolina University by providing exemplary customer service and leadership to students, staff, and patrons. • Review and complete the emergency action quiz with at least an 80% successful completion. • Review the employee manual to effectively remedy situations while mentally referencing policies, operations, and situations that adhere to everyday functions within Campus Recreation & Wellness. • Adhere to all University and public safety guidelines regarding COVID-19 emergency procedures
Aquatic Swim Instructors responsibilities include: • Coordinate private swim lessons for new and returning clients in a timely and professional manner. • Demonstrate knowledge of swimming through the teaching of private swim lessons to participants of varying age and ability levels. • Provide client(s) with a safe environment through knowledge and enforcement of all pool and aquatic rules. • Inspect and report any unsafe conditions or equipment. • Answer questions regarding aquatic programs and procedures. • Report and document all injuries and incidents to the Graduate Assistant of Aquatics and/or the Assistant Director of Aquatics and Facilities. • Uphold the integrity and reputation of Aquatics at Campus Recreation & Wellness, and East Carolina University by providing exemplary customer service and leadership to students, staff, and patrons. • Review the employee manual to be able to effectively remedy situations while mentally referencing policies, operations, and situations that adhere to everyday functions within Campus Recreation & Wellness.
Preferred (Majors, Experience, GPA, etc.)
Aquatic Lifeguard • Current ECU student in good academic standing • Current American Red Cross (or equivalent) Lifeguard, CPR/AED, First Aid certification or ability to obtain within 30 days of employment • Able to swim 300 yards, demonstrating breath control and rhythmic breathing • Able to lift 50 pounds • Able to tread water for 2 minutes using only the legs • Able to complete a timed event within 1 minute and 40 seconds • Able to work indoors and outdoors
Aquatic Swim Instructor • Must be a current ECU student in good academic standing. • Current lifeguard certification. • Must be able to swim at least 100 yards continuously, and swim 25 yards of the following strokes: front crawl (freestyle), back crawl (backstroke), breaststroke, and sidestroke. • Must be able to lift 50 pounds. • Must be able to work indoor and outdoor. • (Preferred) American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor certification.
