Position Overview

Primary Purpose of the Position

The First-Year Experience (FYE) program is seeking adjunct faculty for the Fall 2022 semester. The FYE course is a two-credit, 16-week transition course for new first-time students at Winston-Salem State University. The focus of the FYE course is on academic planning, career exploration, goal settings, self-management, life skills, wellness, and strategies for academic success. Faculty will be expected to commit the time and energy necessary to support student success.

Primary Function of Organizational Unit

The First Year Experience (FYE) Program's primary function is to assist all new students by helping them to successfully transition into the university both academically and socially.

Minimum Experience/Education

• Bachelor's Degree or higher. • Winston-Salem State University faculty or staff member with one year or more of full-time employment experience.

Normal Work Schedule

Monday-Friday 8 AM – 5 PM with weekly office hours

• Master's Degree or higher in any field. • Prior teaching experience.

The FYE course is a two-credit, 16-week transition course for new first-time students. The focus of the FYE course is on academic planning, career exploration, goal settings, self-management, life skills, wellness, and strategies for academic success. Instructors will be expected to commit the time and energy necessary to support student success.

Instructors are required to: • Participate in training and professional development sessions. • Adhere to common course syllabus. • Submit progress reports, midterm, and final grades through EAB Navigate and Banner Rams Online. • Hold weekly office hours.
