The Utah Valley University (UVU) Department of Music invites applications
for a tenure track Assistant Professor of Commercial Music position beginning
August 2022. UVU is especially interested in candidates who make contributions

The successful candidate will be an insightful and engaging educator who
cultivates and sustains a rigorous learning environment. They will have
significant experience in music production, including commercial
writing/arranging, engineering, and recording studio techniques.
Duties of this position involve teaching, creative work, and service to the
department, school, and university community. Teaching responsibilities
include courses in music technology, commercial composition/arranging,
recording studio techniques, and supervision of the required internship
program. Other courses assigned by the department may include composition
lessons, performance instruction, aural skills, or other classes depending on
the candidate's qualifications and needs of the department.
The Department of Music includes 250 undergraduate students pursuing
commercial, education, and music performance degrees with seventeen full-time
faculty and forty-five adjunct instructors. The department is a unit within
the School of the Arts and is an accredited member of the National Association
of Schools of Music. The School of the Arts opened the stunning Noorda Center
for the Performing Arts in 2019, which houses classroom, studio, production,
rehearsal, and performance spaces, including a state-of-the-art 900-seat
concert hall. The Noorda is home to a robust concert season from School of the
Arts student and faculty performers as well as an extensive professional
performing arts series. With over 40,000 students, Utah Valley University is
the largest university in Utah.
Master's degree in music; significant professional experience working in
commercial music; commitment to excellence in teaching; intentional activity

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Expert knowledge in commercial music pedagogy from a producer, composer,
or performer perspective.
Expertise with commercial music and studio software platforms.
Competence in the use of academic course management systems (Canvas).
Ability to explain and demonstrate commercial music skills in a compelling
and instructive manner. Ability to work well with students of varying
Ability to assess student learning.
A record of successful teaching at the university or secondary level; depth of
knowledge and experience in African American music and other vernacular
genres; profile capable of attracting students to Utah Valley University;
evidence of professional creative work, publication, and curricular
innovation; professional expertise with rhythm section instruments.
