Position Summary/Purpose of Position:
A faculty specialist position is available in the field of macronutrient
metabolism and mitochondrial function. The goal of our laboratory is to
understand how alterations in nutrient metabolism contribute to changes in
mitochondrial function in various tissues during active periods of growth and
development and during onset of metabolic diseases including type II diabetes
and fatty liver. Towards this goal, this position requires highly motivated
individuals with overall skills and knowledge in a) performing a range of
biochemical and molecular assays b) maintaining a variety of analytical
instrumentation under the supervision of the investigator c) assisting in
animal experimentation and data analysis and d) management of routine
laboratory care and maintenance. The laboratory will have state of the art
instrumentation and analytical procedures for researching metabolism in animal
models and using various in vitro approaches. This position title will not
support J1 visa employment.
Bachelor's degree in Biological Sciences, Animal Sciences, Biochemistry or any
related Life Sciences field is required. This position requires laboratory
animal (mice, embryonic and neonatal chicken) handling and performing
metabolic studies. At least one year of experience is required in performing
routine biochemical and/or molecular assays, including western blot analysis
for protein quantification, RNA extraction, PCR reaction for gene expression
analysis. The applicant should be highly motivated and should demonstrate a
strong willingness to learn new techniques and approaches.
Previous experience in laboratory animal (mice, rats, chicken etc.) handling
or metabolism experiments is highly desired. Any experience in gas or liquid
chromatography and/or mass spectrometry would be desired.
