Job Summary
Under the supervision of the Associate Dean for the Campus of the School of
Nursing, the Faculty will provide instruction in one or more nursing courses
as it applies to the discipline of nursing. The candidate may have other
responsibilities commensurate with rank and experience. The candidate is
expected to assist the School of Nursing through contributions in service,
professional development/scholarship, and recruitment as facilities and space
permit.

Assist the university in implementing the Statement of Purpose.
Assist the university in implementing the long-range institutional and
financial plans.
Assist the School of Nursing in implementing the nursing program in
accordance with state and national accreditation standards.
Perform role in accordance with state and national accreditation
requirements, as well as requirements for the role of the Registered Nurse
by the states of Louisiana and Mississippi.
Maintain an effective working relationship with University personnel,
students, and the community.
Maintain a clean and organized working environment.
Demonstrate exceptional adherence to work schedules.
Demonstrate exceptional adherence to University and School of Nursing
policies and procedures.
Assist supervisor with additional tasks as assigned.
Value and respect each nursing student and faculty member.
Serve as a resource person to provide information related to nursing
education for counselors, students, and other university personnel.
Maintain appropriate records.
Follow the proper chain of command.
Serve as a student advisor regarding academic matters for nursing
students.

Instructor
Teaching
As assigned, routinely facilitate theory and clinical learning for
students enrolled in the William Carey University Nursing program(s).
(Due to WCU multi-campus environment, School of Nursing faculty are
required to routinely travel, and are responsible for ensuring personal
transportation to/from theory and clinical assignments.)
Supervise patient care administered by students including, but not limited
to, all medication administration, treatments, and plans of care.
Evaluate student performance and progress.
Counsel nursing students regarding academic and clinical performance.
Utilize technology to enhance instruction.
Maintain theory and clinical competence in assigned area(s) of teaching
responsibility.
Scholarship
Participate actively and effectively in the department and university,
offering good insights, creative suggestions, and constructive criticisms.
Adheres to state and national accreditation standards
Achieve the minimum of 2 scholarly activities annually. Expectations for
scholarly activities are in accordance with progression in rank.
Service to the University
Participate in a minimum of two (2) recruitment events
Serve on one (1) school of nursing committee and/or university committee
as assigned

Participates in discussions/presentations/consultations to civic,
professional, or other community groups

Required Qualifications:
Current, unencumbered registered nurse license in Mississippi and
Louisiana with no pending legal or State Board of Nursing actions
Evidence of continuing competence in teaching, scholarship, service, and
clinical practice

Instructor
Master's degree in the teaching field
Demonstrated commitment to high quality teaching at the university level
and the mission of William Carey University
Assistant Professor
Master's degree in the teaching field with significant teaching or other
acceptable experience
Minimum three (3) years teaching or other acceptable experience
Demonstrated commitment to high quality teaching at the university level
and the mission of William Carey University
Associate Professor
Doctorate or terminal degree in the teaching field, or a master's degree
in the teaching field plus additional graduate study toward the doctorate
amounting to at least 72 semester hours (108 quarter hours) above the
bachelor's degree
Minimum six (6) years teaching or other acceptable experience and a
demonstration of very high quality performance
Demonstrated commitment to high quality teaching at the university level

Professor
Doctorate or terminal degree in the teaching field
Minimum eight (8) years teaching or other acceptable experience and a

Preferred Qualifications
Academic preparation – Doctorate in Nursing
Teaching experience – University-level nursing education experience
Physical Demands
Must possess the physical ability to actively facilitate student learning
in the classroom and clinical environment for extended periods of time
(up to 12 hours).
Must possess the physical ability to function in the role of a registered
nurse in the clinical setting. Candidate will need to provide evidence of
a current health assessment verifying physical ability to perform in the
nursing faculty role.
Must possess mobility to work in a standard office setting, and to use
standard office equipment including a phone, computer, and 10-key
calculator.
Must have vision to read printed materials and a computer screen; hearing
and speech to effectively communicate in person and over the telephone.
Must have the ability to sit or stand for extended periods of time (up to
four hours consistently).
Must have strength and agility to assist with patient transfers in the
clinical setting.
