Job description

INTERNAL APPLICANTS ONLY

Faculty of Social Sciences

A rare opportunity has arisen within our Faculty of Social Sciences. If you are seeking a job in which you can combine working at a strategic level with an operational focus, that will bring you into contact with all areas of University life and that will allow you to demonstrate your commitment to the pursuit of excellence in the Social Sciences, read on.

Duties of the Role

We are looking for an outstanding Faculty Operations Manager with the curiosity and imagination to support the Faculty in driving progress across our Social Sciences.

The Faculty Operations Manager is responsible to the Faculty Manager for supporting the management of the Faculty Team and the delivery, enhancement and development of its services. The Faculty Operations Manager is a key member of the Faculty Team and provides high quality dedicated support to the Faculty Manager, managing specific areas of work, activities, and support services. The Faculty Operations Manager also has the capacity to deputise for the Faculty Manager in their absence, as appropriate.

The Faculty Operations Manager is expected to develop and maintain a broad range of networks across the University to support delivery of outcomes and develop key professional relationships, some of which will be external.

A full list of duties and responsibilities can be found within the job pack.

Qualifications and Skills required

You will need to hold a good degree (2.1 or above) or substantial equivalent experience and have previous experience of project work and knowledge of good project management techniques to be able to drive projects and improvements across the Faculty.

We are seeking an excellent all-rounder, able to work independently and as part of a team with a commitment to continuous improvement and high level communication and organisational skills. You will display the enthusiasm and creativity needed to ensure that our Social Sciences continue to deliver both outstanding research and a transformational education for our students.

This role is key to delivering Faculty activities; we would like to hear from you if developing processes, procedures and working practices, being part of a dynamic team and delivering on excellence within Social Sciences stimulates you.

Appointment to this post will be on a fixed-term, full-time basis until 31 March 2024 to provide cover for existing staff absence.

At the University of Essex, internationalism and diversity is central to who we are and what we do. We are committed to being a cosmopolitan, internationally oriented university that is welcoming to staff and students from all countries, faiths and backgrounds, where you can find the world in one place.

To support this commitment we have our Global Forum, a staff-led network that promotes and celebrates the rich cultural diversity among Essex staff, and our Colchester campus based Faith Centre, which hosts regular services, meetings and events organised by our chaplains and faith representatives.
