Amarillo College is currently accepting applications, cover letters, and
resumes for a Full Time 9 Month Automotive Faculty Member who will adhere to
the aforementioned mission statement, and can begin in the Fall I 2021
Semester (August 2021). The qualified applicant will also provide
instruction in all phases of Automotive Technology with special emphasis on
engine and transmission repair, brakes, suspension, and electrical and engine
performance regarding Automotive and/or diesel applications. All
automotive/diesel faculty participate in NATEF compliance activities. This
position is eligible for coordinator appointment, depending on qualifications.
GENERAL QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
Required: Associate Degree or Higher in Automotive Technology or
Preferred: Bachelors or Masters in Education
Required: 2 years of experience in the automobile service industry.
Preferred: Secondary or Post-Secondary teaching experience.
High quality work experience may substitute for education or teaching
Required: Valid Class C Texas Driver's License with a three-year safe
driving record. NATEF/ASE certifications (achieved on or before hire
date): G-1, A-1, A-4, and A-6.
Preferred: NATEF/ASE Master certifications.

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Exhibit effective teaching.
Perform teaching activities, including classroom instruction, directing
projects, and assisting with student coursework, research and internships.
Plan, develop and present organized classroom instruction and learning
opportunities for students in accordance with approved course outlines.
Collaborate with colleagues to develop master courses and assessments that
align across the curriculum.
Teach day and/or evening courses as required.

Teaching Load: The teaching load for full-time faculty will normally
consist of 15 load hours or equivalent assignments. Faculty are assigned by
their chair to teach in their major fields, insofar as possible. They may,
however, be assigned to teach in their minor fields in accordance with
standards of accrediting associations. (Responsibilities for Non-teaching
faculty will be individually prescribed).
Proportional Assignments: Full-time faculty appointed for less than a
15-load-hour assignment per semester shall receive accrued benefits
proportional to the percentage of appointment.
Overload Assignments: Overload teaching may also be assigned as needed by
the department chair (as referenced in the "Overload Assignments" section of
the "Faculty Handbook). Pay for overload teaching will be based on the Part-
time Instructor Salary Schedule rates.
Office Hours: Full-time faculty members must have regular office hours
for teaching preparation, student advising, and other incidental tasks
required for teaching. The schedule of classroom and office hours must be
posted as soon after registration as possible.
Advising Requirements: Faculty will serve as academic advisors based on a
divisional or departmental advising plan. The number of advisees will vary
depending on the number of majors in a division. Adjustments in other
responsibilities or compensation may be made if it is necessary for a faculty
member to be the advisor for more than sixty students.
Committee Assignments: Each faculty member will normally be assigned
membership on at least one institutional committee but may not be required to
serve on more than three committees.
Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is
regularly required to talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to
stand; walk; sit for extended periods of time; and have sufficient hand, arm
and finger dexterity to operate a computer keyboard and other office
equipment. Must be in good physical condition and be able to stand, walk,
bend, lift (heavy lifting up to 100 lbs.), climb, push, pull, stretch, and
get down on hands and knees.
Working Conditions: Degrees, experiences, and certificates must be in the
proposed teaching or service area and must meet any accreditation requirement
applicable to the program or institution. Any exceptions must be expressly
approved in writing by the appropriate President's Cabinet member.
Certification, licensure, or registration counts toward placement only in
programs in which one or more of these is required for accreditation of that
Work Environment: This job operates in a classroom setting, shop setting,
and professional office environment. Classroom location assignment may vary
including for teaching assignments at our East Campus, Moore County Campus,
Hereford Campus, and/or Texas Department of Criminal Justice Unit (TDCJ).
This role routinely uses standard classroom and office equipment such as
microphones, audio/videorecorders, computers, overhead projectors, phones,
copy and fax machines, filing cabinets, and a large variety of automotive and
diesel vehicles, equipment, and components.
Attendance Expectations: Regular attendance is an essential condition of
employment. Must be willing to work a flexible schedule (days, nights,
weekends, holidays, and varying events as necessary or scheduled.)
Travel: Some travel may be required for this position.
Salary: New faculty members will be placed appropriately on the College
salary schedule established for their category of employment. When determining
an employee's placement on the appropriate College salary schedule, the
employee's position, responsibilities, experience, education, and years of
service shall be considered.
