Must have and maintain a valid driver's license.

Basic computer skills.

Ability to understand and carry out verbal and written instructions.

Basic facility maintenance skills or experience with electrical, plumbing and carpentry issues.

Ability to write and complete work orders and written parts request.

Preferred Qualifications

Previous experience using an electronic work order management system.

Experience working independently and ability to be self-motivated.

Ability to read and understand simple blue prints or diagrams.

Work experience in apartments, residence halls or hotel maintenance.

Job Description

The Facilities Maintenance Worker I performs skilled and semi-skilled (carpentry, electrical and plumbing) maintenance and repair work on university housing facilities. They participate as a member of the Department of Housing and Residential Life Facilities Maintenance team in providing noteworthy customer service to students, staff and guests.

Job Duties

Perform basic electrical, plumbing and carpentry repairs

Repair, replace, and maintain existing fixtures, equipment and systems

Coordinate workloads and projects with others

Identify necessary parts and maintain building inventory

Inspect building(s) and perform preventative maintenance

Fabricate parts or components

Install new appliances or equipment

Prepare work reports

Perform basic HVAC inspections and filter change

Provide updates to residence hall directors and students regarding repairs and issues

Perform all physical aspects of assigned duties, including stooping, reaching, climbing, and lifting to 50 pounds

Serve as on-call and essential personnel, which requires occasional irregular work hours, including evenings, weekends, holidays and emergency closures, to meet the department's and the university's needs

Perform other duties as assigned
