Position: Full-time, 12-month position as Director of the Joseph S. Bruno Auburn Abroad in Italy program (non-tenure track faculty) located on our Ariccia, Italy campus, anticipated to begin on August 16, 2022.

The Program: The Joseph S. Bruno Auburn Abroad in Italy program is offered to Auburn students during Fall, Spring, and Summer terms and includes a 2 credit pre-departure course and a 12 week/14 credit hour experience in Ariccia, Italy, located 20 miles from Rome. During their time in Ariccia, students participate in a variety of lectures by prominent Italian subject matter experts and field trips to supplement the lectures. Approximately 21 students participate in the program each term and can earn an International Minor in Human Sciences. Responsibilities: The person in this position reports directly to the Director of Global Education, College of Human Sciences and provides overall leadership for and development of the academic program in Italy and oversight of all curricula and program content; teaches a pre-departure orientation class; works cooperatively with Italian staff to ensure that all curricula and program content is delivered seamlessly; serves as the primary public relations “face” of the program; provides overall administration of student housing; assists with student recruitment; facilitates and evaluates students' daily learning experiences in Italy; works cooperatively with the Auburn home campus; maintains the program website and blog; develops, maintains, and administers program assessments; serves as the College's Italy Association of American College and University Programs in Italy (ACCUPI) representative; prepares and revises program public relations materials; serves as student/faculty contact for academic and student discipline issues that are not readily resolved on-site in Italy; ensures student grade reporting is handled in a timely manner; determines the term calendar; interviews prospective students and graduate student assistant applicants as needed; supervises the Auburn Abroad in Italy graduate assistant; coordinates with the Office of Global Education's team regarding billing, vendor payments, and other programmatic needs; coordinates and oversees facility repairs and maintenance with Italian staff.

Minimum Qualifications

The candidate must have a master's degree in one of the Human Sciences fields (Human Development and Family Studies, Interior Design, Apparel Merchandising, Design, and Production, Nutrition, Hotel and Restaurant Management, Global Studies) or a field closely related to program content at time of employment; be fluent in English (verbal and written); have (or be able to obtain) valid Italian working papers and meet eligibility requirements to work in the U.S. at the time the appointment is scheduled to begin and continued through the proposed terms of employment; extensive international experience; computer and internet skills; experience administering a budget; a program vision that is consistent with the goals and values of the College of Human Sciences; excellent interpersonal skills and a high level of enthusiasm and flexibility; ability to manage a team; understanding of FERPA, risk management, affirmative action, campus security, and Office of International Programs policies and regulations; strong organizational skills and ability to multi-task, successfully problem solve, and work in cooperative partnerships across time zones; experience with risk management and ability to deal with emergency situations in a highly professional, sensitive, and timely manner.

Desired Qualifications

Ph.D.; knowledge of the Italian language; experience teaching at an American university; high Cultural Intelligence; knowledge of Italian customs and laws; knowledge of various Italian bureaucratic systems involved in administering a study abroad program.
