Position Information
Job Title Evening Library Supervisor
Position Summary
Supervise evening staff and library activities. Provide excellent customer
service to library patrons. Assist patrons with circulating materials, ID
Cards, TexShare Cards, Parking Permits, and Print Management. Shelve library
materials and assist with the arrangement of the library collections. Provide
library service by assisting patrons with general questions. Provide general
maintenance of copy machines/printers and Coffee Bar. Must be able to work
evenings until midnight.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Supervise evening library activities, evening student workers and
circulation staff working in the evening.
Maintain excellent customer service standards and assist patrons with
library questions, catalog searches and general reference questions.
Assist patrons with circulation materials, ID Cards, TexShare Cards, Print
Management account, and Parking Permits.
Maintain Coffee Bar supplies and coffee, maintain paper and toner/ink
cartridges in copiers and printers; check to be sure the machines are
functioning properly. Report problems with machines to supervisor.
Maintain first and third floor: ‘quiet', shelving materials, shifting
collections, and shelf reading.
Perform closing procedures and secure building each night.
Communicate with campus police on events and issues during evening hours.
Communicate with Circulation Staff to ensure continuity of service.
Perform special projects and other duties as assigned.
Education, Certifications and/or Licenses
High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required.
Minimum of 30 college credits preferred.
Experience
Two (2) years Library experience preferred.
One (1) year Supervisory experience minimum.
One (1) year Customer service experience minimum.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Knowledge of library practices, procedures, and techniques.
Knowledge of standard filing practices.
Knowledge of basic computer systems.
Ability to type 40 WPM.
Proficiency with an integrated administrative system and current software
programs.
Ability to follow University and library policies and procedures.
Ability to stay calm and lead patrons during an emergency.
Excellent customer service skills including the ability to engage interact
and communicate with patience, clarity, tact, and courtesy
Proficiency with an integrated administrative system and current software

Ability to learn a variety of procedures.
Ability to make informed decisions.
Ability to file and use library equipment including the online catalog and
automation system.
Ability to understand the role and the purpose of the library.
Ability to pay attention to accuracy even with many work interruptions.
Ability to be a self-starter who is detail oriented.
Strong organizational skills with the ability to work independently.
Ability to comply with rules, standards, regulations, FERPA related laws,
and laws related to student records and confidentiality.
Ability to adhere to University and departmental policies and procedures.
Ability to establish and maintain a good rapport with a diverse group of
library users and staff.
Ability to maintain a neat & professional appearance and office atmosphere
Ability to add and subtract two-digit numbers and to multiply and divide
with 10's and 100's.
Ability to perform these operations using units of American money.
Ability to read and comprehend instructions, standard correspondence, and
memos.
Ability to write simple correspondence.
Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group
situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
Possession of a pleasant and clearly understandable phone voice.
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but
uninvolved written/oral instructions.
Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in
standardized situations.
Ability to work evenings until midnight.
Ability to complete all physical tasks as needed.
