Founded in 1975, Literacy for Life is an independent 501©3 organization
located in William & Mary's School of Education. Literacy for Life's mission
is to improve lives by teaching adults literacy skills required for self-
sufficiency, better health, and meaningful participation in society. Literacy
for Life provides professional instruction and volunteer tutoring in reading,
writing, math, English language, citizenship, computer skills, high school
completion (GED and NEDP), health literacy, workplace readiness, and
preparation for post-secondary programs.
The Literacy for Life program is seeking a qualified ESL Instructor.
To develop and administer ESOL instruction to adult ESOL learners of various
levels, ages, and language backgrounds. This is a part-time position; 20 hours
per week, has a partial benefits package and requires a background check.
· Develop and teach 4 in-person and/or online ESL classes per quarter
· Work in conjunction with the IELCE Program Manager in choosing materials
· Assist learners with Burlington English test practice
· Maintain and report accurate learner attendance
· Contact students who have missed several consecutive lessons
· Help with goal reviews and exit interviews as needed
· Help with intakes when needed
· Proctor assessments as needed
· Other duties as assigned
· College degree required and MATESOL or equivalent preferred
· Experienced in adult education and detailed lesson planning
· Must be a team player, detail oriented, and a self-starter
· Willing to teach evening classes when needed
· Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and Zoom
