Position Description

Contributes to the university's mission through teaching in an area of expertise, mentoring students in professional and career preparation and serving as liaison with professional contacts and entities on behalf of the department or program. This is a non-tenure track, multi-year renewable appointment contingent on successful annual and cumulative performance appraisals as well as a majority affirmative vote of the academic unit. Summer appointments possible, but not guaranteed, contingent on demand for courses and availability of funding.

About the Department and/or College

Our Higher Education (EDHE) program prepares administrators, researchers, and student affairs professionals for the field by engaging them in the theoretical, methodological, research, and practical aspects of higher education. The academic rigor of the program adheres to the expectations of a Carnegie Very High Research university. The Higher Education program includes four distinct programs: online Ph.D. in Higher Education, M.Ed. in Higher Education Administration (onsite and online), and certificate in Higher Education Leadership & Administration.

The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in U.S. higher education that contributes to the ability to teach student development, student affairs, budget and management, funding, and crisis management. Additionally, the individual will have administrative expertise, and experience working with diverse populations.

Major/Essential Functions

  • Actively collaborate with Higher Education faculty team members to deliver online and face-to-face courses.
  • Engage in strategic discussions with all program faculty on ways to innovate and develop our programs.
  • Developing and teaching graduate-level courses in higher education in both face-to-face and online formats.
  • Recruiting, advising, and mentoring graduate students, with a focus on masters and certificate students.
  • Serving on master's thesis and doctoral dissertation committees.
  • Engaging in service at the program, department, college, and university levels.
  • Participate in service including service to the department, college, and university is expected.

    Required Qualifications

    A master's degree in the discipline or the substantiated equivalent in professional experience of ten years or more.

    Preferred Qualifications

  • Doctorate in Higher Education.
  • Ability to assume teaching responsibilities at the graduate level in both face-to-face and online formats.
  • Five or more years of professional experience in higher education at the faculty level, practice, administration, or in professional organizations that contribute to higher education.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with other faculty, students, and staff.
  • A demonstrated and ongoing commitment to serving diverse populations.
