CEMML is a research, education and service unit within the Warner College of Natural Resources at Colorado State University (CSU). Position Summary

The (Defense Environmental Restoration Program) DERP Cleanup and Restoration Specialist will provide technical expertise to Army National Guard Environmental Branch Headquarters in support of the Environmental Compliance and Natural Resource Programs to develop and implement remediation programs that protect human health and the environment. Tasks will include project oversight for Installation Restoration Program (IRP), Military Munitions Response Program (MMRP), and other DERP-eligible projects to ensure compliance with regulations for cost-effective cleanup of contamination resulting from past practices. Work site is remote (home based); installations supported are throughout the U.S.

Required Job Qualifications

  • B.S. or B.A. degree in environmental science, natural resource management or a related field
  • A minimum of three years professional experience supporting environmental cleanup and restoration programs under Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act (CERCLA), Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA), Defense Environmental Restoration Program (DERP) and Military Munition Response Program (MMRP).
  • Experience working with multiple stakeholders to communicate regulatory and technical requirements.
  • Experience working on DoD installations with federal Environmental Compliance program managers.
  • Must have a valid driver's license or the ability to obtain a driver's license by the employment start date.
  • The successful candidate must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. by proposed start date; CEMML will not provide visa sponsorship for this position.
  • Preferred Job Qualifications

  • Prior experience executing cleanup programs for DoD.
  • Experience in project supervision and training in Army Environmental Liabilities are also desirable.
  • Competitive candidates will also have specific knowledge of environmental investigation and remediation, including mitigation of environmental impacts on natural resources and ecosystems or public health, and experience with sites involving Unexploded Ordnance (UXO).
  • Experience developing Army Installation Action Plans for cleanup is beneficial.

  • Coordinate activities and identify acceptable environmental outcomes, working closely with multiple stakeholders, including local, state and federal agencies, non-government organizations and the general population.
  • Position will monitor and document site activities and provide guidance and recommendations to the government for improvement and compliance.
  • Review technical documents prepared by contractors for completeness, accuracy, and regulatory and legal sufficiency. Identify data shortfalls and provide recommendations for correcting and improving project data.
