The Department of English, Foreign Languages and Speech Communication at Jackson State University is accepting applications for its English Instructor/First-Year Writing Program Coordinator position.

Minimum Required Education

Must have at least an MA. in English or a closely related field.

Minimum Required Experience

  • Must have at least two (2) years experience in writing center or writing program administration.

  • Must have three (3) or more years of teaching experience at the college or university level.

  • Minimum Required Licenses and/or Certifications



  • Candidates must have a successful track record in teaching composition or writing in the disciplines.

  • Candidates should have a record of service to their university and department.

  • Preference will be given to candidates with experience in writing pedagogy and writing center theory.

  • Skills and Abilities

    Candidates should demonstrate a record of leading collaborative faculty initiatives.

    Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Serve in a 9-month renewable position and teach a 2/3 each academic year.

  • Responsible for developing first-year writing curriculum and advising first-year writing instructors and students regarding the curriculum.

  • Responsible for facilitating assessment and documenting assessment data of the first-year writing program.

  • Responsible for collaborating with the Director of the Richard Wright Center and the Writing Program Director to craft faculty development initiatives, mentor undergraduate peer writing consultants and lead writing development programming for students and faculty.

  • Responsible for managing graduate writing center fellows.

  • Collaborate with faculty in Writing across the Curriculum and Writing in the Disciplines initiatives.
