The Netherlands is facing substantial construction logistics challenges. A rapid reduction of emissions is needed to meet the climate agreement objectives. We expect that digital twins can play a crucial role in making construction supply chains more efficient resulting in less emissions. However, it is unclear how digital twins can deliver the necessary logistics control information for supply chain management and what the added value is, including the emission reduction potential.

The objective of the EngD project is to develop digital twin applications that are capable of supporting construction supply chain management and improving construction logistics. Demonstrators for the most important digital twin applications will be developed for a specific case (construction project) to showcase their operation, value, and feasibility. You develop digital twin applications and demonstrators in close cooperation with industry partners. Determining success factors for the successful use of the digital twin applications is part of the EngD project.

The challenge

  • Collaborate closely with our industrial partners, analysing their processes and needs.
  • Identify and develop digital twin applications.
  • Create demonstrators of selected digital twin applications to showcase the feasibility and value (e.g. energy reduction potential).
  • Identify success factors for the use of digital twins to improve construction supply chain management and logistics, enabling the creation of a more sustainable future.
  • Your profile

We are searching for the best MSc graduated with

  • a proven affinity with construction and/or building logistics processes.
  • a background in the field of Construction Management & Engineering, Business & IT, or related discipline with a proven affinity for multidisciplinary assignments.
  • prior knowledge in information management systems, Building Information Modelling and digital solutions in construction will be useful to successfully complete the project but can also be part of the educational program.
  • Besides, you have the ambition and talent to accelerate in finding and developing solutions for complex technological issues with a multidisciplinary character.

    Important professional skills are:

  • Dutch and English language skills.
  • Communication and social skills.
  • Teamwork, initiative and self-reflection.
  • Our offer

We offer a contract for 24 months. During these two years you follow a tailor- made post-master design programme with a combination of education (50%) and working on a design project (50%).

Additionally, the University of Twente provides excellent facilities for professional and personal development, a holiday allowance of 8% of the gross annual salary, an end-of-year bonus of 8.3%, and a solid pension scheme.

On successfully completing the programme, you will receive a certified and recognised degree.
